1985 Defender 110 Double Cab 300tdi

I figured I post a for sale thread since my paint thread is pretty much turning into one. For starters, here is a link to the original for sale thread when I purchased it.

http://www.defendersource.com/forum/...ad.php?t=33405

I've done a lot of work to this truck since I bought it, and its been a reliable vehicle for me. It broke down on my way home from purchasing it, but aside from that, its never left me stranded. The reason I'm selling is because I had planned to do a rebuild on it (4.6, auto, LHD, TD5 dash, ect.), but it looks like I won't have time. I will likely be moving to NYC in the spring/summer, so I don't think a rebuild is in the cards. I've also found a D90 that I'd like to purchase, which is why I'm listing this now. I'll be cleaning the truck up tomorrow so that I can get some pictures of it how it sits now. On monday I'll put it on a lift at work at take some shots of the frame and undercarriage.

Drivetrain: 300 tdi fitted with an LT77 transmission and a 1.4 ratio LT230 with a PTO. On my way home from purchasing the truck the radiator sprung a massive leak, so I had it towed back and put in a radiator from British Pacific. The new radiator now leaks, but not enough that I have had to top up the coolant. I replaced the water pump with a new genuine unit and recently replaced the thermostat. About a year ago replaced the starter and installed a D1 alternator, which I was told was mostly a direct bolt on, but I ended up having to grind the alternator bracket to make it work. I replaced the timing belt, tensioner, and idler pulley not long after I bought it. A while ago I put a genuine Land Rover serpentine belt on it, and within 5 miles it developed a very loud belt noise. I put the old belt on and the noise continued. Around the same time I heard about the "penny trick" which I tried and it worked. The engine leaks no oil, but the transfer box leaks. The fuel tank seeps fuel, but not enough that I have ever bothered look into fixing it. I've replaced the fuel filter and adjusted the valves regularly. I put a clutch in it about a year ago because of a throwout bearing failure.

Frame/Rust: This truck really doesn't have any rust as far as I know. The frame from the rear spring perches back looks to have been replaced. I removed the transmission crossmember which usually hides rust holes on the frame, but there were none. The bulkhead is galvanized, but I do not think that it is a new unit. I'm guessing when the vehicle was rebuilt the bulkhead was repaired and then galvanized. The doors are the new style that are not welded at the tops. They have absolutely no rust. I also installed the new style lower door seals, and new front door seals. This has made a huge improvement for the interior heat in the winter.

Body: Its orange and there is a big dent on the left rear quarter.

Wheels/Tires: Boosts and some General Grabber a/t's with tons of tread.

Interior: Nothing to write home about. The front seats are newer and in okay condition. The rear seats are likely the originals and it good shape, but they really aren't great seats. I replaced all of the gauges with VDO Vision Series. I replaced the heater box and it works pretty well, but the fan only works on high. I bought the GM fan to do the upgrade, but never got around to doing it since replacing the door seals made such a difference. The previous owner installed dynamat throughout the vehicle and it is fitted with a carpet kit for the front. The door cards are in good shape.

The odometer stopped working at exactly 120k and about two weeks later I replaced the gauges, so it has about 124k miles, but that is pretty meaningless to me since its obviously a rebuild of sorts. The VIN decodes as being a 3.5 V8 station wagon. I'm asking $23k for the truck which I hope is fair. I think whoever purchases this truck will be pleased with it. Its served me well, but its time to move on.

Here's a pic from a few weeks ago. There are lots of pics in the old for sale ad.

Good luck with the sale. What are you going to be doing in NYC?

Fixing Land Rovers. My girlfriend is about to graduate law school and will likely have a good job up there.

Judging from the NYC contingent, take the 110 and you will be well represented…make sure you have the boosts installed…never mind...

Vesuvius Orange. Kinversand is a bit darker and more reddish orange as I recall.

I was walking out the door this morning to go vacuum out the inside and it started to rain. I did, however, take some pics of the underside and common concern areas. I forgot to mention that the t-posts are galvanized as well. I also took a picture of one of the Boosts in case anyone from NYC is interested in it. I will clean up the inside tomorrow at work and I'll post more pictures tomorrow. Let me know of any particular shots you guys want.

More pictures

I didn't have much time today at work, but I did do a quick vacuum of the interior and hosed off the rear mat. The rear floor mat isn't actually that shiny, its just still damp.

Jimmy sorry to see the truck for sale...I have seen this truck in person and have seen it run. It is a good deal for the price he is asking. Convert it to LHD and you could get twice what you are asking.
