1985 90 Lhd W/ 300tdi

OK so here is the scoop. 1985 90 with winch, shackles, good rubber, already LHD converted, 300tdi engine. Engine runs good, frame shows no rust, body does show some corrosion. Roof rack, brush guard, roll cage, hella lights. VEHICLE IS IN NEW BRUNSWICK, CANADA!!!! I bought it about a year ago, it is at a friends place, under cover. I am patiently awaiting the 25 yr date to turn, which is rapidly approaching. But in the meantime, I had a third child, business has turned sour, etc. etc. What looked to be a fun project, wise investment, has turned into a burden and source of naggiing questions from parties that will be left unnamed. I have a build date letter, registration, etc. Vehicle is insured, under cover, and photos are available upon request. There is a possibility of holding it in current location until build date turns into 25 yrs. WHich will happen next year. Or someone can keep it for canada, or, someone can try thier luck, I have not had the berries to do it. asking 14,000.

I believe it is October, 1985 from Gaydon. I have the letter at home and I am at work. It was registered in Canada as a 1985, and I almost thought about bringing it down and pleading that it must have been built in 1984, but alas, the build letter came and said 1985, which probably makes it a 1986 model year.

Exact date of import eligibilty ?

Does anyone know the date when this can be imported legally ?. Is it the 1st of January 2010 or as it is an October 1985 would it be classed as a 1986 year model and be held to 25 year rule based on the build date.

Sorry for the delay guys, have not been checking it too often, things are crazy at work and insane at home. I will attempt to post pics tonight. Legal import date would be 25 yrs from date of manufacture. I have looked all over this bad boy for stamps in the frame, or anything that might say it was built earlier, but then i just sent the money into the historical society and they sent me an official letter.

Follow-up Post:

So I can't figure out how to post any damn pics and it is getting late. I work with a techie and he will be able to get some posted for me on monday I am sure. Basics for now: It is red, SW, has a two inch lift. The vin is:SALLDVAC7AA24567

Manufactured at the Lode Lane factory, Solihull on the 18 October 1985

I think that most likely on Jan. 1, 2010 you could probably bring it in, but if you get a stickler then you're screwed. I've read and have seen a bunch of 84's over the past year that were brought in on the 25 year rule and were not 25 years to their build date.

If you had rotten luck and were snagged by a stickler, would you just turn round and go back to Canada till the exact 25 or is there a chance it would be impounded. Does anyone have actual experiance with this not some NHSTA interpretation. It would be a lot easier to go back to Canada than RORO back to the UK

I believe you are correct, unless you are trying to be fraudulent about it, they would probably just tell you you can't come in, but there are others on this forum who have more experience with this. If I was single, this would have been tried already, but alas, with a family, time is at a premium, and since the truck is in Moncton, which is 6 hrs from my house, and the border is about in the middle between us, it would have been a long trip to return to Moncton. The attempt would probably have been made with my family, and I can't see sitting at the border with kids under six, while a customs officer with a hair across his ass decides to impound our vehicle, impose a fine, or turn us around.

I have emailed photos to those who have requested them, if you don't get them, let me know, (arobbins@rlco.com)
I am sorry for my inability to post photos to the site. If any of you who have received photos would be kind enough to post them it would be appreciated!

So I got a little help and was able to upload some photos. I am sorry they are not more detailed, but it gives you an idea. I can have my friend take some more photos for people interested. Sorry for the delay.

that's a great looking truck. I want to import a similar truck next year, maybe even a One Ten. If only I had the funds right now...I'll trade you a modded 2000 D2. I think I even know a nice quiet place to bring her across.
