1984 RHD Diesel LR90 Defender 90

1984 Land Rover Defender LR90. I imported this car from Ireland in 2010, passed it through customs, had it inspected, and registered it here in New York. As far as I was informed, it had one owner previously, and had its engine replaced in the mid 1990's with 300Tdi. The wheels are after-market i was told. The VIN is SALLDVBC7AA221125.

I love it terribly, but in preparation of some big moves coming in my life I am culling most-all of my belongings. I have replaced the cables, the hoses, the headlights, and ~2,000 miles ago replaced the clutch, master, and slave / entire assembly. Nothing is wrong with the car now as far as function goes. It is an old car, and does have surface rust on the undercarriage as would be expected. I had the hinges replaced on the passenger and driver-side doors, but the rear door is the thing on the car most in need of attention. The aluminum body of course looks great, but the steel structure within is in need of repair/replacement in order to take some flexibility/play out of the door. The headliner sags a bit - particularly over the rear left clerestory - but have seen far worse in cars half as old; replacing the headliner would make the car seem roomier, but it is by no means cramped.

The car is currently in Ithaca, NY. I have had it both in New York City and upstate, and in both places it was both great as a commuter and a trip car, and was ALWAYS a head turner. The car can go over anything, just not over 65mph. For city driving, it turns on a dime (it is a considerably small car despite its large amount of space and epic performance) and is genuinely FUN to park. I found that the right-hand-drive was no more difficult than left to learn (and to clarify a frequently asked question before it arises, NO, the shifting pattern is NOT mirrored, it is the same as an American car, you just shift with your left. The pedals, too, are also the same as an American car) the only confusion might arise when switching back to an American car after driving this one for a few months in that you might drift towards the shoulder, being comfortable nearer to it. I have actually come to prefer driving on the right - particularly in urban environments - because I feel that it forces a greater awareness of your immediate situation not the sidewalk / parked cars and I can be a safer driver easier.

I have had many offers made on the spot, and a handful of business cards left inquiring if it was for sale - of course now that it is, I live rather in the middle of nowhere and am hardly convenient to gather crowds. As a standard LR90 it is a "2-Door" (3-Door including back) 7-Seater, but I have had as many as 11 not including myself - though as can be seen from my images, often those involved were about half a person wide. Regardless, this vehicle is a beast and a perfectly capable people mover.

Guys: Ladies love it (and you), guys envy you, and the general population will be generally baffled by your grandeur.

Ladies: You will impress the guys (and gals) with your spectacular taste and all around mofo stance in society.

I will be sad to see this machine go. It is and forever will be the Autobeast of my dreams, but my dreams look like they will have to wait another while before I will have the luxury of space to get my hands on another. To make it clear, I had always thought that a Defender was my dream car, and having now actually had one, I am sure of it. If I did not have to sell this car, I wouldn't.

I am looking for $13k but am willing to entertain offers as well as provide shipping quotes from a company i have used in the past for anyone far and curious.

welcome to the forum, do you have a price? and maybe if you took some underbody pictures and of the usually rust prone spots on 90's maybe it will sell a little faster. pictures always help!

the weekend of the 'hurricane' that hit new york city i took a bunch of girls upstate for a 'week before fashion week' breather.
a long naked weekend in the gorges of the fingerlakes with some of the best company definitely sucked less than most.
this car has seen some / contained some very wild times with some very fun and attractive individuals.

To the Seller:
Also do you want that front british/irish spec front plate? I would love to buy it off of ya instead of having a buddy ship one from england.

I was hoping for like $25 plus shipping, i am not really too sure what UK spec lisence plates go for. But i really only need one (and am fine with $25 for the one plate), i just want to run it on the front of an old Rover i am getting.

pardon the quality drop in photos. i lent my camera to a friend before i ran out of town so these were taken last minute with my phone so they are a little zoomy and 'contemporary'/abstract

in the mix there are shots of bulkhead, wheel well, undercarriage, crossmember, paint bubble on back door, underside of passenger door.

Can you post some pictures of the quite close friend? Like from the rear, underneath?

Sorry in advance if this is actually someone's wife. Just adding some sick humor.
