1983 *cough* Toyota FJ60 *cough*

I've been hesitant about posting this on defendersource, given its manufacture, but having recently paid attention to all manner of items sold (watches, etc.) and advice given (foosball tables, etc.), I figure this is as good a place as any...

I have been coveting a local woman's 1982 Saab - a sweet, original, rare color (Pine Green) - that has only been serviced by one mechanic since new (he did the pre-delivery, too). When I showed up to look at the car, this FJ60 was in the driveway. We made a deal for both. Now that the Saab is in need of far more than I expected (things that make sense, given its lack of use, but include tranny), I've got to part with this... it's not a flip, as much as a recoup of funds.

Pros: A Santa Barbara, CA car from new to 245k. Car now has 269k. Driven to VT about 10 years ago, only driven in VT winters intermittently over the last 4 years. Totally original, down to all of the California emissions (which can be pulled). Interior is a 9.5/10 - certainly the nicest I've seen in any ads (no dash cracks, the slightest hint of a crack on the driver's seat vinyl). Freshly rebuilt transmission (great detents and feel), with clutch done at the same time. Completely rebuilt front brakes (calipers, etc). Every trim piece present. Brand new (7 miles) BFG All Terrain T/Os on mint 5-spoke wheels. Never in accidents; doors shut properly; get in and drive it back to CA (plan a long trip - it's a 4 speed!). A/C works!

Cons: Driven in VT intermittently over the last 4 years, so it has rust. Luckily, she undercoated it, so there is ZERO rot or really even substantial rust on the frame. Body-wise, it's an easy restoration - with only a handful of spots needing light grinding. All of the bubbling on the doors feels rock solid and you can chip as hard as you wish with a flat-head or punch and not find any of the spots to be fatal. Will need front swivel balls rebuilt.

Priced fairly at $7,500.00.

Complete parts car (w/all of the rare, unobtainable trim in place) available at $500.00 additional.

(6) Flat steel-faced (rare!) original wheels available at $400.00 additional.

(4) Studded Cooper Discoverer M/S tires with 1,000 miles mounted on original 5-spoke wheels available at $400.00 additional.

Or, take the whole lot for $8,200.00.

I'm a regular watcher of BaT and such sites, with the perennial complaint being: "classics have gotten too expensive to afford!" Well, this one does not fit that mold. Lots of pics on hand, but happy to send photographs any areas requested.

I like those Cruisers a lot. I wish we got up to the family house in VT more - If love to have this up there.

What Saab did you get? I had a few of the 900 Classics and loved them.

it has been on ih8mud for a bit....free bump and glws.

I really like these classic Land Cruisers and have been test driving a few lately. They get a lot of flack for being slow but they feel on par with both Defenders I have owned.....
I really like the metal lower dash on the FJ60s....

Thanks for the recommendation to post at ih8mud... will have to look into how to do that. A friend told me it had been cross-posted from my original craigslist ad.

I had the frustrating experience of "selling" it weeks ago to a guy in Toronto - and trucking it over to be inspected by an independent mechanic (it passed with flying colors, BTW)... only to be told by the buyer: "gee, I didn't think about import duty." Oh, well...

Here's a better picture of the interior.

And, for good measure, one of the Saab. I settled on the Shelby Minilites in the front, as the Incas were a little too 80's, even for me.

Love the interior dash of that LC! Would make a great vintage 4x4 for someone - wish I could have another in the driveway.

Great 900 Classic too. That is a rare color. IDK - I like the Inca's on the early 80's examples. I painted mine black on the inside and left the "ring" raw and thought that was a good look on the 1980 5 door Turbo I had in '92. I don't want to de-rail your thread but love seeing Saabs. Speaking of which - I think it would be great to have a section on D-90 Source with members' other projects.

VTLR very nice truck, something I’d be all over if I wasn’t saturated with 5 trucks right now….

Here are a couple more selling options for you:

if you are on FB: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1555595808033019/

Yankee Toys: MA/NH- Yankee Toys | IH8MUD Forum

And talk to Rodney at Performance Unlimited, he often links FS add for truck that he thinks his clients may be interested in. https://www.facebook.com/Performance...4944699875146/
