1983 110 V8, LHD, 2 door $ 7,500

This car is still in Europe and I am not planning to bring it over in the near future. If you are interested I would recommend Doug to do all the logistics.

This listing is for a 2 door, all original, 1983 110 V8, Left Hand Drive.

I am not going to say this is the best you can find. Actually it is quite easy to find better ones.... but not for this money.

What I do like about this car is that it is all original ; paint, engine, frame, interior, tires. Body is straight, engine and transmission work like they should work.

The good:
- all factory original
- odometer shows 172384 km, appr 110 K miles. No guarantees this is correct but given the condition of the car it wouldn't surprise me.
- tires not new but ok
- interior can use a clean up but all original, no rips in seats, headliner above front seats.
- engine runs good
- transmission good, shifting normal no weird sounds
- original paint but faded, one door is faded even more and shows a different red.
- frame, solid no major rust. Rear cross member replaced, welding done on out riggers
- no power steering
- roof rack
- no visible (big) oil leaks

The bad:
- doorframes
- LH exhaust manifold is leaking.
- bulkhead corners rusty, I have seen better, I have seen much worse
- surface rust on frame
- some aluminum corrosion on doors
- ugly carpet in load area

I drove this car for a few miles and everything seems to be working ok. Please understand this is a 31 year old car and although I try to make this description as accurate as possible, there always might be something I didn't see, couldn't see or didn't know about.

price is $ 7,500 including free delivery to the port of Amsterdam.

Off road rig ? Hmmmm that would be a pity.

This one might not be the best but LHD Defenders, this original, hardly show up. Also not in Europe!

Preserve the frame, fix the doors, bulkhead and manifold and you have something unique.

I'm interested. How difficult would it be to turn it into a stockish 4-door? Better to buy a plush 4-door RHD to turn into a LHD or to convert a LHD like this into a plush 4-door? Parts availability? Anyone?

Steven, welcome to the forums.

What Josh is trying to say is you can buy a late model (perhaps even new) Land Cruiser for less money than a plush 4 door defender.

If anyone is willing to share their knowledge regarding converting a 2-door into a 4-door, please consider posting or sending me a PM.

It is not so difficult, the whole body is just bolted together. There are some small supports on the frame which need to be cut away and welded.

The body behind the front doors, including the B-pillar need to go off and a 4 door body need to be put back.

Having said that, I think the biggest problem is the parts.

I do have another 4 door 110 which could be used as a donor but it is still in Europe also. Price is not so high but I am afraid the transport is going to be the killer.

Probably better to buy what you actually want, it is out there.
That way you are just fixin what you have.
Unless you plan on doing a complete tear down time & $.

I second what Craig said. I'm new to the hobby myself and the first thing to get used to you won't find Defender parts cheap AND easily on this side of the Atlantic. Maybe one or the other, but not both.

Look at the parts catalog from here to get an idea of all pieces you'll need.
http://www.landroverweb.com/landrove...rover-manuals/

By the time you've gathered all the bits you'll need, plus paint work and whatever tools and supplies along the way, you could've just gotten the car you wanted and kept some change.

Look at the forum history for an indication of prices and in particular keep an eye out for what else Johan brings in. He's a stand-up man to be doing business with and I think he's got some of the most reasonable prices on here.
