1979 Series 3 73400 miles

Can anyone provide me any feedback on this truck. I dont know much about the old series trucks. Is it a good deal? Considering buying it for my off road beater.

A 2.25l petrol engine will only return 28-30mpg going down a steep hill in neutral. But then you don't buy a Series for gas mileage.
Tires look original and won't pass a safety.
Should test the chassis with a hammer at spring mounts, bulkheads, and horns.
Looks nice.

thanks much,

fortunately i live in a small town in south louisiana. Very easy to pass by, shake hands, and grab a brake tag. So.. im not to worried bout the tires etc.

I really would like to know if there are any major querks in these models. does this seem like a fair price assuming it is what its being sold as?

thanks guys

Series III pricing is very fluid. And it all boils down to the frame and bulkhead. Common problems that will cost money:
- frame has holes - outrigger are easy to replace
- bulkhead has rot - difficult to replace
- pops out of 2nd gear - may be a rebuild in it's future

Other than that they are pretty much bullet proof.

Mike, that's just a tad too far away or I'd offer to go look at it for you. But in general, I suggest checking out http://landroverexchange.com for pricing and comparables. A quick search for series 3's in the US show them in the price range of $5k on up. This $5K one looks awfully nice for the price..

OR $7500 for a 1981 stage 1 V8 109

Oh if only I needed another rover..
