1976 Land Rover Military One-Tonne truck (101FC - GS)

One of a batch of 58 trucks supplied to the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg: Which maintains three infantry companies and one Support Company as part of NATO's Rapid reaction force . It was built to the General Service (GS) specification, but includes some Luxembourg specific features:

• LHD 24V, painted internally and externally Matt Khaki LR275.
• This truck is one of eight fitted with the R1B Nokken winch – which includes a winch brake (lever position in the cab adjacent to the driver’s right leg). This allows loads to be held without having to turn the engine off, a common complaint with the Nokken winch
• Rear full length longitudinal bench seats for eight infantrymen.
• Side lockers, accessible from outside the vehicle - between the wheel arches
• document/map pocket inside the driver’s door
• Fuel pump external to tank – fitted as a field service item
• Uprated gross vehicle weight on the chassis plate (from 3143 KG to 3652 KG)

This truck had a VRN of 3746 and was fitted with a second roll over hoop at the rear, which was used as a mounting for three Radio antennas that allowed the vehicle to be used as a forward flight control vehicle. Radios carried included GRC-160, GRC-106A and a VRC240.

I have owned the truck for eight years during which time the following work has been done:

• Engine: New valves, valve guides and seats recut, new cam, cam followers, intake manifold (Offenhauser), new carb (Edelbrock 4 barrel), new distributor with electronic ignition, timing gears and chain, high volume / pressure oil pump, water pump, fuel pump (external to tank Facet).
• Brakes: new master cylinder, plus all wheel cylinders, shoes, including transmission brake, most of the brake pipes (Automec), and all brake hoses, recon brake bias valve (above rear axle)
• Clutch: master and slave cylinders, and hoses
• Other mechanical: All wheel bearings / seals replaced, new Rimmer Bros stainless sports exhaust (sounds lovely),
• Electrical: Rebuilt starter motor, generator and generator control panel. Truck is 24v FFR but the engine ignition circuit had been hacked to 12v. So proper 24/12v converter fitted to do the job properly. Military (glowworm) headlamps replaced with halogen units
• Other: Fuel tank reconditioned and lined, radiator re-cored, new windshield glass, aluminium (Rocky Mountain) door tops. Truck re-prayed correct Luxembourg Army colours and unit markings (Fall 2015). New seats (Exmoor trim) Rebuilt the storage lockers. Bar-grip tyres replaced with “used but good” Michelin XZLs - including the spare
• Canvas is in great condition

Other comments:
• Nokken winch is complete but has never been tested by the current owner

Price: $20,000 USD ono. Buyer collects from current location (Near Ottawa Canada)

Hey Andrew, welcome aboard!!
Just home from the Achilles surgery, and a bit 'landlocked' for the first month.

Welcome Andrew, looks good. Was the side lockers (between the wheels boxes) a MOD fitment or aftermarket thing? Good idea.
GLWS plenty of info in this listing.

This is a really sweet rig, I will miss seeing it out at the club events. Whoever gets this is one lucky person!

Andrew-my apologies upfront for hijacking your thread, but your user name seems to indicate that you have one of the 811 produced between 67 and 69. The 1st 3 digits of the VIN s/b 343. If so, I would love to see a few pictures. PM is fine. Thanks and GLWS of this cool 101!

Answers to questions above -
- side lockers were a Luxembourg specific fitment - cool trick is that they can be accessed without having to drop the upper side panel - i have the original items - quite fragile, but made up the one's that are currently in the truck
- for Tony - yes i do have a NADA station wagon - currently needs a new frame - so the plan is that some of the money released through the sale of the 101 will get channelled into starting the rebuild of the NADA

cheers

Andrew

Thanks for the updates and for info on the side lockers, I have one done already. It seems that most pictures of 101's the engine and gearbox covers are in the reclining position as mine is at the moment now.

More pics of the 101

So i took advantage of it being a gorgeous evening and fired up the 101 to take some outside snaps. First time its been started since the snow melted - fired up with a very healthy bark...and then did a few laps of our hay field - all good - sounds lovely - kind of NASCARish. no problems to report - phew...
best regards Andrew

Price Reduction: 1976 One Tonne FC

Dear all
Thank you for the interest in the truck - its flattering to receive positive comments on the fruits of one's labours.

I'm eager to get started on the next project, and need the cash from the sale of the 101 to get started - so the asking price is now $16,500 US and I'm open to offers.

In addition to what's shown in the pics, the truck comes with pioneer tools, 4 additional spare tires, and some miscellaneous spares - including new clutch kit, and the original inlet manifold and CD 175 carbs.

Any takers?

Best regards

Andrew

Hi, I have never attempted to bring in a vintage vehicle from Canada into the US (then into California). Do you have any idea what the processes would be? - your truck looks pretty clean and would be beautiful for hauling friends and family for day trips into the Sierras.

Thanks, Len

The process is easy, but there are not many shippers that do transport across the the border. Just make sure you get the correct measurements from the seller or pm me as I just did this. Not sure of the tyre size on this one.
You can ask uncle Doug to do the paper work, or rely on the shipping company.

But it would make one hell of a road trip if the 1 tonne is roadworthy.

Good Luck

Shipping to US and California

Thanks for the interest Len, and for chiming in Cap'n Teach.

For Len - I'm more than happy to work this with you - I have a few people in my network who have moved vehicles across the border more than a few times. I'll do some homework.

Assuming that the logistics don't present a major headache - is your interest in the truck serious? - just checking

Best regards

Andrew

Oh - and just to avoid any confusion - the truck is roadworthy...

Tires are Michelin XZL 9.00 x 16
Physical dimensions are: 35 inch diameter x 9 inch wide
Other than that - the vehicle dimensions are per a normal 101 GS - will dig them out of the manual and post later
best regards

Andrew

Thanks Andrew, et all

It sounds like shipping across the boarder to CA can be done. I had been looking at a local '88 here in the bay area where I live and then found your listing. Your truck looks and sounds quite worthy, but Don't go too far out of your way for me yet... I have to contact CA DMV to make sure there won't be any registration issues and then mull over the decision. . Thank you for your time.
