1973 Series III - Daily Summer Driver - Station Wagon 88"

I am overloaded with Land Rovers currently, and I have to make space for two foreign deliveries:

Year: 1973
Model: Series 3 - 88" Wheelbase
Configuration: Station Wagon, Safari Top
Engine: 2.25l Petrol
Transmission: 4 Speed
Miles: 61,400

PRICE: $12,500, firm.
Location: Martha's Vineyard, but I will deliver to secure lot in Woods Hole to facilitate pickup or transport.

Upgrades / Recent Work:
-Disc brake conversion on front axle, double master cylinder
-Wolf 16" wheels to accommodate the disc conversion
-New gearbox and transfer case - 3k miles ago
-New clutch, rear main seal, and - 3k miles ago
-New alternator - 4k miles ago
-Radiator recore - 4k miles ago
-Rebuild of engine - 4k miles ago (all seals and gaskets)
-Parabolic / Old Man EMU gas shocks
-Rear Tire Carrier (hood mounting hardware still available)

Use: This is my daily driver during summer months on Martha's Vineyard. I have put 2k trouble free miles on her this summer. I check and change all fluids regularly.

Condition: Maintained since new, but not restored to a show car. Wax oyled approximately every 7-10 years with zero to minimal rust on chassis, outriggers, and bulkhead. Door bottoms have minimal bubbling but no rust debris departs with door closure. Footwells were repaired with replacement patches; prior owner sealed with caulking (not so lovely selection of white caulking).

History: Family / Friend owned since new. It has always been a spring, summer, fall only driver. Spent the first 20 years in NYC for weekend trips to Hamptons. More recently, it has entered a proper Rover life on the Cape and Islands.

Faults: Interior dash is cracked. Oil pressure and vacuum gauges do not function. Marks her territory, but not with significant oil, gear oil, or differential fluid loss (check every week, top off once per month). Galvanized trim was coated with silver paint.

-Original paint was red; repaint to military green approximately 5 years ago. It is a perfect paint job from 10 feet away. Interior matches and was painted at the same time.

Again, this is my daily driver. It works, every day. That said, it is not a $25k restoration; I priced it at $12,500 to allow someone room to create a beauty or to just continue to use and maintain it as it should be. The car and the photos looks great from the proper distance, the compliments never end, but do not expect a trailer queen that you tow to shows.

Looking forward to meeting Chris on Sunday. His first trip to MVY, and I will give the lady and him a tour of the island in this truck.

A few other nibbles, but no confirmed takers.

Lovely truck. Well done. GLWS
Though I wouldn't suspect you'd need to go off island to find a buyer!

I have thought about parking it on Main St in Edgartown or the Chilmark General Store with a for sale sign and a few hours.

That would have been the first thing I'd have done. One day in front of The Black Dog should do it.
Looks like you've achieved a good balance between something that is too nice to drive daily and a something that has needs on a daily basis. I like the galvy cappings against the non-metallic paint.
Obama could buy for his daughters first car while he's there ruining the island for everyone else that's trying to enjoy it (or is he gone yet?)

I have my fingers crossed for you Rachael! I hope you like what you see when you get there. It looks good to me, the body is straight, safari top, not too much rust going on.. it's a definite candidate! You can always paint it!! The exact color you want too. If you are like me it's going to be hard to walk away from her! The lovely doe eyed rusty vixens these series are!! lol Y'all are going to have a great time, I'm sure!!

Obama is still present, but his location this year off of north rd is much less disruptive than in prior years. Closing south road is horrendous.

I hope this works out for Rachael and Chris. We will leave no stone unturned when going over it. I know every nut and bolt, which has allowed me to walk out to the car, turn the key every morning, and depend on it daily for my business that requires 50-100 miles of use per day. It splits service with my ROW and NAS.

At a minimum, I will give a tour of MVY!

Unfortunately, Chris had mechanical issues with his own defender on his way to MVY. As such, she is still available. Oh, the joys of a land rover...

Now on ebay. I have had a fair amount of interest but no takers. No rush. The right buyer will come along.
