1970 Bugeye for Sale

I have a 1970 SIIA 88 Bugeye for sale, named Ike in honor of the an "I like Ike" sticker from an Eisenhower campaign on back window. I've had Ike since 96 and we have been all over CO & UT exploring many highways, byways and back roads. It is now in eastern WA (along the ID border). I bought Ike in Santa Fe, NM and was told by the previous owner that it lived in Austin for a year or so. In short, it has lived most of its life in the dry west. Ike a great truck mechanically and structurally. Like all LRs Ike is happiest when driven regularly.

In June, Iím moving back to CO for work and cannot take Ike with me. For the past few years it has been casually for sale, but I have reached the point where I need to pass Ike along to the next owner. All bits listed as new were replaced within the past couple thousand miles.

Good Points:
Rebuilt Turner 2.25 petrol
Rebuilt transmission & transfer case
Zenith Carb (Weber and a New Rochester in a box)
New Clutch
New Brakes (MC, wheel cylinders, pads, springs, drums, & flex lines)
Good chassis, breakfast and bulkhead, western truck, not rusted out
Original paint
Fairey OD complete but not installed
New Exmoor Trim Deluxe front seats
New LaSalle Headliner
Drop down tailgate
Newish tires with lots of tread

Rough Points:
Door cards are ugly
Scuttle vent seals are shot
Passenger side windshield glass is cracked

Asking $6800 obo, don't be afraid to make an offer.

Paul,

Sorry to see this. That seems like a very nice truck. GLWS.

Sold, paid in full and picked up. I hope the new owner enjoys it as much as I have. Good luck and safe travels.

Yes. I'll let him fess up to his rover addiction if he chooses.

I just noticed that I'd never fessed up.
I am really pleased with this truck. Paul's attention to mechanical issues has been the best I've seen on a used Series.
Sandblaster got sloppy doing the under-bonnet so now I've stripped it down to the frame, sandblasted and stripped everything and had all the parts professionally painted. Now I'm putting it back together.
It looks like a new vehicle and I have the same excitement I did when Shane at RoverHybrids rebuilt, painted and swapped a 300TDI into my 1994 D90. In this case I decided to follow Paul's thinking and am staying stock.
I was delighted to find out that the Turner motor had the 2.5L cam and the 8.1 gas flowed head.
I did do one thing that some may not like but my experience with Shane Line-Xing the inside of the D90 was very positive: The painter mentioned that Raptor now offered a clear Line-X/Rhino Lining-like material that he could mix with the paint and spray it in the engine compartment, frame, tub, seating area and footwells.
Glad I've done it because I now have a very durable coating that is solid color (not painted on) and it will help reduce noise, dings and rust.
So anyway - thanks again Paul for a great truck
