Since January 1, US customs has changed the way they interpret the regulations that govern defender imports.

Even if the vin matches the chassis, the truck must be almost completely stock as it rolled out of the factory. If not, it will be seized and not allowed entry into US.

I am aware of at least 5 110 and 90's in the last few weeks that have been seized.

DO NOT ship until further notice.

The government responds really well to appeals. $10,000 and it is still no!

Tell me more. What exactly did you ship over? Who is your broker? What port?

I have a Tithonus 110 en route.

I have one in customs right now as well. I just got word it is off exam and should clear today.

There is no reason in the world not to import right now. The rules have always been in place but were not really enforced.

Read the rules, don't interpret them, just follow what it says. Have a good broker, have a customs bond, have the truck cleaned prior to shipping and you should be fine.

The issues with rejecting trucks for disc brake conversions and such are really BS and we all know that but there are many people that thought it was fun or cool to "sneak" in a "restored" truck and now we are all paying the price.

PS: while typing this I received notice that I am cleared. Lets add another 1984 110 to the US POS inventory

I'm hoping that's the case, David. It's a straightforward 87 110 but it does have the Tithonus reconditioning...still 2.5 NA, LT77 and rear drum brakes though. It came from Witham and I'm hoping that they do a good job on the cleaning.

I called the destination port and spoke with a CBP officer. He stated that he doesn't forsee a problem so long as the truck is actually 25+ yrs old. Says he's not seen any Land Rovers seized at his port (a smaller port, not east coast) and he's not aware of any trouble with them.

He suggested I call their higher ups and I did, and left a voicemail. We'll see, I guess....

I've got one on the delayed entry plan at Baltimore. The waiting game started a week ago.

"Read the law, do not interpret it" is a silly comment. It is all subjective. One port may say the wheels, engine, etc have to be stock and another may feel differently.

Doug crowther handled my most recent shipping.

The government has changed their interpretation of the law.
