Some of the famous (?) 2.0mpi Defenders. Canada would make a good home....

I don't think Doug could do it either. Looks like too big of a job for him. Definitely couldn't swing this.

It is a tasty gathering of Rovers but.....
Let's pretend that vehicle age and customs are not a factor (utopia, I know)....

At a minimum price of $8K US for each Rover... you then need to add freight on each Rover to get it to our Utopia. The handling costs on these Rovers are going to be high - it is not like calling a tow truck to drag one to the port. It is going to take a team of people and a fleet of trucks to move these things - to say nothing of coordinating the paperwork. I conservatively figure that you will have $3K to $4K in shipping and handling costs per each Rover (probably more).

Now you got $12K (or more) invested in a clapped out old police car.. (Carabinieri is the national military police of Italy - and many of these trucks have that on the windscreen). And this $12K price is if you win the auction at the minimum reserve and there is no wanker bidding the price up.

I wager that most of these cars will have odd holes in the dash and possibly patch jobs on the roofs. Sure they have new seats and fresh paint (lip stick on a pig?). And about that fresh paint... 100 cars painted at the same time and the same color - sounds like a MOD quality paint job. Add into that the high percentage of vehicles with the "interesting 2.0 MPI petrol engine" ... I am not sure we are looking at a great bargain here.

I think there are plenty of better (less risky) examples to be had for $15K - $20K already in here in the US.

I know.... I am a great big wet blanket.

I agree that they are ex Carabinieri and it is a shame that they painted them all white with a poor paint job as the original color is really nice. Not sure why they are saying NATO seems fishy.

If you look at the pics you can see some major over spray and the bulkhead and floors are still the original color.

Would have been a better deal if they would have just left them alone other than removing the stripes and stuff.

These may be Carabinieri from the Afghanistan Mission. The Carabinieri handle military police missions all over the world. I worked with them in Iraq, Bosnia and Afgh. they may be beaters but the color is pretty if restored.

Not that I can point fingers. My ex-mod is certainly more beat up than these police cars.

It would be cool to inspect this lot. I'm going to Italy in a week. But I'll be up north, pretty far away from Naples. Bummer.

You're right my largest shipment to date was only 18 on a single bill of lading. Not really interested in trying since they aren't US legal, but hey thanks for the vote of confidence Neil.
