Texas - Have '94 Defender 90 w/ Title Issue

Hi guys, I purchased a 1994 Defender 90 on eBay a couple of years ago and last year I found out that is has a branded title... not fun. I haven't used the vehicle as much as I had thought and hoped I would, now I'm looking to sell it. I contacted the Land Rover dealer in Dallas and they offered me a price that I felt was far too low. I know that I will take a hit on the vehicle because of the title issue, but it's still a great looking and working vehicle. My Defender is red, and has approximately 98,000 miles on it... and, of course, a branded title. I also have 4 tops - a full hard top, a full soft top, and two 'bikini' tops.

Does anyone know how I can find an accurate value for my vehicle? What's a good place for me to sell or advertise my vehicle online? Also, I'm hoping someone on this website could be interested in my Defender or know someone who is. Any and all feedback is welcome and appreciated.

Thanks,

Will

Welcome to forum.

First off, the Dallas LR dealers will lowball you every time. It's offensive. Not reflective of the value but be clear your branded title is a big hit to value. What's the history? Post some pictures.

This is a great place to post a vehicle for sale in that most here are educated on value. Have thick skin and keep your knees bent as comments are not sugar coated. At a minimum you will know where you stand.

You might consider selling a few of the tops separately as you rarely see the value when included with the truck.

Will, you've probably received 20 PM's by now and there will be many more here interested in purchasing your truck. Many just lurching without an account. Take your time with the transition if you have an idea of where you would like to see it land. GLWTS.

Look for comps.

There was also a green rebuilt title truck in Mass, I think. Asking $35ish.

Run it through eBay a few times...it's well worth the exposure.

I rather like it for a D90. I have a preference for longer wheelbases.

I need to stop looking in the for sale section and at feelers for selling. It getting depressing knowing I have no money to buy right now.

The person I bought it from told me via email (after the fact) "Land Rover Nashville was responsible for titling the vehicle this way because the truck had been in a minor accident and the owner had done some of the repair work himself and some at LR Nashville. LR Nashville could not therefore verify the odometer so they titled it this way."

As to what I'm looking to get for it, I'm still working on coming up with an accurate and fair value. Having trouble finding comps since it's a semi-unique situation.

Not to be too blunt, but what did the dealer offer you? Not that it is necessarily representative of actual value, I just think many of us are curious where a dealer who has all but turned its back on the Defender (except when to cash out on one) would value one.

Land Rover Dallas always like to get their hands on a D90; they get them for whatever they can and typically sale them between $40K-$48K. I've been following them for a while.

I'm with Josh... Interested in the number as a reference point, not a market value.

Looks nice, definitely the millage was rolled back in 2010 as it was reported at 97150 in 2010. The accident in 2009 is not cleared. In carfax noted rearend and damage to QP but another one indicate more damage than minor. 5 Owners Truck

A NAM title is issued when the owner discloses to a DMV mileage fraud, a broken odometer or that the actual mileage of this vehicle is unknown.

A year and a half back I was at LR Dallas for service on my RR and had them look at my 97 D90 SW with 80k +/- miles on it. No rust in good shape. They offered me $15k. Retail market was closer to $32k. That dealers offer is irrelevant.

X2 on running a carfax.

Thanks for the information. The LR Dallas dealer offered me $12,000 - $14,000 and they have not seen the vehicle in person, only pictures.
