Ozzie with a Duramax powered 130 Defender

HI Folks,
I have been on the forum for a while but have never posted. I live in Australia and have numerous Land rovers including a couple of classic Range rovers. My current project in the shed is a 130 Extra cab Ute that i have shoehorned a LBZ/Allison into. I have been driving it for a year and pulled it off the road in January to finish the conversion and get it engineered.

Cheers
Gazza

I would love to see that. I drive a 2006 2500HD Duramax and have often wondered if the engine I love so much could work in a Defender. Lots of pics, please!

I have a 2016 Duramax and could only imagine that it would create substantial frame damage.

Pictures would be awesome.

What type of fuel economy are you getting out of it?

I've heard of this mythical beast! Let's see it please, we are talking about doing something similar but feel the engineering is gonna kill it.

My point is I highly doubt that the frame was designed to handle the torque that the engine puts out. You would think it would twist it.

And I thought the best Land Rover out of Australia was the Isuzu powered Perentie.
A duramax V8 powered unit might just be a bit more awesome.

I used to have a Convertible Hummer. I drove a factory owned 2006 wagon with the Duramax and I must say WOW. The added weight of the wagon compared to the convertible still made me have a huge smile but my wallet wouldn't allow it.

I too wonder how a LR frame would hold up to the weight and torque of the Duramax. Heck GM wont even put a Duramax in the Tahoe, Suburban, etc models for some stupid reason.

Put it one one of the much stronger Snatch frames

Chassis Strength

I Think the frame is strong enough. I have installed a 5mm plate on the inside of the chassis from the engine mounts to the bolt in cross member below the gearbox. I'll post a build thread as i go through the rebuild and engineering process. I have been driving it for a year and haven't broken any thing yet. Economy is not as good as the old 300Tdi i pulled out but empty running is around the 13 L/100 k's. Wind knocks it around and tends to bump it up to 15.
