NW Defender newbie

Hi guys, just joined this forum last night and can't seem to turn away.
I am trying to absorb as much information as i can before making my purchase decision.
If i were to drop, say, 30K on a truck. what would be my best option? The ones on E-bay seem extremely overpriced. Since i live near Canada, should i be searching up there for a better deal? Any good Defender sale sites to look at?
Any suggestions would be greatly accepted.
Cheers!

A forum search will help you answer those questions. Importing is not as easy as it sounds but there are plenty of threads where you can read about this.

If you're looking for a great local LR restoration and aftermarket accessories shop, look no further than Defenders Northwest in Gig Harbor:

Jared:

A lot depends on if you're going to buy a LHD NAS truck or a RHD one from the UK. Then you need to decide whether to get a 90 or 110, with a gas or diesel engine.

There will be quite a few Defenders at the Portland All-British Field Meet in September. I suggest you attend that. Also, go introduce yourself to Brian at Defenders NW. As Chris mentioned, DNW will be invaluable to you.

Cheers,

Paul.

I bought my exmod on vancouver island in 2011 and imported it through the point roberts crossing. As I knew the criteria they were looking for, it took about 30 minutes including inspection, tax and paperwork. Small port of entry is a lot more low key than a big shipping port. Original truck, 25 years old without a butt load of mods and it should be gravy.

It may be that there's not much more than Van & Vic Craigslist as far as websites with BC D's for sale. If some BC guy is buying them & fixing them up to sell on his splashy website, you'll probably be paying thru the nose for a polished turd just like on eBay. You'd be much better off buying a running/serviceable/registerable fixer-upper & getting in line for DNW to do whatever needs doing that you can't do yourself.

And do get a pre-purchase inspection by a legit LR indy pro b4 you commit to anything. Unless you have serious mechanical skills and you can go check it out it for yourself, assume that anything fs where you can't get such an inspection is an attractive nuisance to run like Hell from.

Also note that Canada's import cutoff is 15 years compared to the US's 25. So, most imports tend to be too new anyway, suggest you get one from a reputable US dealer/importer.

There was a 2.25 petrol 110 at founders day for 12k canadian. I didn't check it for rust but it was original, 25+ and LHD I believe.

I glanced at that truck, never got a chance to give it ago once over though. Couldn't comment much on it's condition. All I know is that the truck was originally from the UAE.

If anyone is interested in that truck, PM me, and I can get you in touch with the owner. He's a friend of a friend.

Welcome,

I too am from the Seattle area and just bought my first defender, though I've had an LR D2 for about a year.

Why start two threads asking same question?

Can you confirm it was a 2.25 petrol? I couldn't find the owner and another guy said it had the small gas motor.

Doesn't petrol=gas and 2.25 =small. I can't imagine a smaller one. ;-)

I was asking him to confirm the information I was given by another guy at the show but thanks for jumping in with your insightful analysis.

I'm convinced half of the dickness comes from simply not being able to read inflection in voice in two line posts, half of which are probably typed on a phone while watching TV and eating at the same time.

...at least, that's my excuse.
