Greetings to you all,
I am new to this forum but 44 years of Land Rover ownership will tell you where I come from.
Landy No 1 was purchased new in 1971, a Series 2A 6 cylinder hardtop.

Landy No2 was a Series 2 diesel SW and Landy No 3 was a Series 2A diesel pick-up which became a donor to keep No 2 on the road.
Landy No 4 was a Series 3S SW with R6 6cyl engine

Landy No5 was a 110 V8 County SW purchased new in 1990.

Landy No 6 is a Defender 110 V8 purchased new in 1995, now has 249,000 km on the clock and going strong. we still have this one and it is called McGyver.

Landy No 7 is a 1990 Defender 130 V8 LHD full SW acquired 1999 with 3000 miles. Previous owner HM government. We still have this one too with 40000 miles on clock.

Landy No 8 is a 1990 110 V8 which was acquired for a specific safari with friends. It was called BA after BA in the A team as it was fully dressed up.

Lastly Landy No 9 a 1990 110 V8 hardtop purchased new by my late father-in law seen here in the middle of the Zambezi near Lukulu, Zambia.

We have had a lifetime of happiness with our Landy's for they are not vehicles but tools for what we want to achieve and they become part of the family.
best regards
Richard

Awesome post and pictures. Any reason so many of yours were from 1990, both new and used?

Thanks Danny, and Randy I would really love a Puma but I would have to sell both Defenders to get one. I have had very nice drives in 2 different models and I can describe them as “new wine in an old bottle” I just can’t get my head around buying a vehicle that I am compelled to have dealer serviced. I also don’t fancy a computer under the seat which I depend on and the fly by wire throttle, especially if inundated! Maybe that answers your question Josh because the 1990 to 1995 period carburetted V8 Defenders to me are best of breed. The V8 is far superior in sand, delivering torque down to the last piston stroke, long after the TDI’s have given up. Also the total cost of ownership of the V8 is less than a TDI or even worse the TD5, the much lower service and repair costs if you do it yourself offsets the extra fuel at 17 mpg. The engine of my 95 Defender 110 after 249K has never been opened and still has compressions in spec. I know my way around them and there are very few jobs I could not tackle myself in the past. I am now 71 so I have to be a bit more restrained!
best regards
Richard

Good philosophy! It's rare to find Europeans, such as yourself, that are not devotees to the tdi, but rather fans of V8 muscle! Good for you! 71 and running as strong as your rovers sounds good to me! You probably only have 50 more years or so, give or take, of adventures in rovering, so stay up on that maintenance! ;-)
