New member. hello!

Hello,I'm Paul from Canberra Australia.

bit of a landy nut. I have a few but as its the defender source I'll only mention my defenders.

Have 3 defender 110s. a Td5 and two 2.2s

also have a 1993 ex UK royal mail defender 90. So probably the 200tdi without turbo as its the 2.5

Just thought Id register as I'm restoring the 90 to give to my wife and given that I think theres more V8 90s there I'd try my luck and see if I can get the parts I need stateside!

Welcome, Paul down in Oz.
There were not any instances of the 200TDI being without a turbo.
You probably have a 2.5 N/A unless some knucklehead installed a 200TDI and left the turbo off.
TDI = Turbo Diesel Injected, ie all had a turbo.
There were 2.25 & 2.5 Naturally Aspirated diesels and a 2.5 fitted with a turbo that were used prior to the 200TDI coming out.

Share some photos, mate!

Oscar:
I am usually wrong when I make an assumption, but thought Paul was referring to his 1993 ex UK royal mail defender 90 regarding the engine. I wouldn't think that is a 200TDI less the Turbo, but anythings possible.
Hope all is well with you.

I thought Land Rover Tdi meant 'Turbo direct injection'?

I could be wrong, but I had one of the first 200Tdi Defenders when I lived in the Scottish Highlands back in 1990, and I recall we were corrected from 'Turbo Diesel Intercooler' to 'Turbo Direct Injection' by the dealership...

Looks like it is Turbocharged Direct Injection if you are talking about a VW. Not sure if it applies to LR.

Like I typed, I am wrong with half the terms half the time, but the key point is the T = Turbo, ie engine designed from the beginning to have a turbo.

I think you're right with "Turbo Direct Injection" as these zero tolerance engines squirt the fuel into the piston void directly as opposed to a Turbo Indirect Injection that has a pre-combustion area with an actual combustion chamber like a gasoline engine. In other words, the indirect injection piston top is usually flat with the void in the head.

It's written "TDi" so for land rover it probably stands "turbo diesel injection" to differentiate for the earlier turbo diesels.

Actually you're right 😳 it's the 2.5d not a 200tdi. I'm wanting to swap either a 200tdi or 300tdi auto. Or even v8 if it's legal here as I want to give it to my wife. She wants it as a daily driver to give our 68 mini a break hahaha. Will post pics up in a sec

Nice.
I have seen so many botched 300TDI Conversions where the engine sits cocked to the right, but that's a different story.
