New Defender 90 Owner in Miami

Hello All!

I'm an ecstatic new 1991 Defender 90 owner in Miami, FL. It's my first Defender and first project car so I'm feeling pretty nervous.

I bought the vehicle from a guy who imports them in here in FL and I'm pretty sure it's ex-military. Not sure if you can tell me for sure? It has the tire mount hardware on the hood, no power steering, plenty of dents to go around, and has no door panels on the inside, etc.

Of course, this being my first project car, I feel like I might have been hosed on price (18k USD) and I might be in over my head but I'm determined to make it a good experience. I'm planning on adding power steering, addressing any rust spots (nothing major it seems), fixing the minor play in the wheel, and then cosmetic stuff starting with the interior.

Any suggestions would be welcome!

Very nice. These trucks practically left the factory dented. You might be missing a few extra poorly applied layers of paint to be ex-mod, but you never know ;-) Someone here will be able to deduce it for you if you really want to know it's provenance. Welcome!

Panels dented from the factory??? Lol, they're not dented just a little "wavy".

The rear lights are new. Military ones look very different.

The waviness adds character.

At least it isn't the NAS truck that fell off the carrier somewhere between port and the dealer. Now that thing had dents. The guy that bought it probably got one heck of a deal on it though.

Congrats and welcome.

Haha fair enough. Thanks guys!

It's the 2.5 NA Diesel. The previous owner confirmed that it's ex military. Any downsides to that? Aside from the door panels and lack of power steering, are there any major differences? Putting in power-steering soon.

Well he only gave us two pics of pretty much the same side. Maybe the DS looks like it lived in a Tesco parking lot ;-)

Ok, I see the dents you were referring to. Looks limited to the DS wing, rocker, and door skin. The rest of the truck, and that paint finish, are about as good as they come. So I'd just enjoy it as is until you get bored and replace/refinish those panels. Paint matching is a pita. Very fun looking truck. Enjoy, and again, welcome.
