If it was oil pump sprocket, it did. LRO, Defender2, LandyZone, and LR4x4 all have threads where 2.2's just up and quit. Attrib to either DPF cycles puking diesel into sump, or tensioners gone wrong. There are 4 different LR oil pumps, each superceding the last.

Hope the OP comes back with more details or resolution. Will be good to know in 2037 when the 2.2 comes to our shores.

Similar here. Buy a car in Canada and the US wont recognize the warranty.

The car has less than 500 miles on it...it has been in storage in DF since purchased and serviced before the trip to the US border. The LR dealer in Leon, MX where it had to be towed originally thought it was one of the fuel pumps but finally ruled that out and determined it was these three parts. I can't imagine that these 3 parts will require at least 25 working days to receive and then install. How does a brand new Defender going 65 mph just stop driving in the middle of the highway???

The below list is a from an LR dealer in Merriam, KS. Any LR dealer in US has access to these parts if they show up in this inventory search.

The main question is WTF happened to your engine? If sprocket went, then what other parts internally were affected. I would really try to get them to order US LR parts, or order yourself, and ensure all repairs done under warranty and documented.

it is about $80.00 worth of parts before shipping.

Where are you located?

Need to know if this is the oild pump sprocket.
I am in Texas...I purchased the Defender in Mexico City bc obviously it wasn't available in US. I had it licensed in Mexico so I could bring it into the US for a road trip across the US into Canada. I was hoping to expedite the parts on my own to the Leon, Mexico LR dealership where it was towed bc 25 working days to receive these parts seems crazy to me. I'm nervous now about embarking on a 100 day road trip to end up stranded again...it has less than 500 miles on it.

Dude, it sucks. But it is gonna be OK.

What did they say happened? Not just "your shit is broken, buy three parts". Is it the oil pump? Cam?

Ensure you know what happened so you can make warranty claim if needed. Did Leon, MX dealer tell you it was under warranty?

Once fixed you will be fine. There are millions of these engines out there, running millions of miles. I have a 2.2 and drove it all over Europe, engine is fine.

Tell dealer you will get LR Genuine parts. Get LR parts yourself, either deliver or mail them to dealer.

@KGH thank you and that would be dudette... yes it is under warranty as it is brand new but the issue is the egregious amount of time it has taken to diagnose the issue-over a week at the LR dealership with mechanics who said they aren't very familiar with the Defender and don't work on many and then said it was the fuel pump, then changed their mind and indicated it was the three parts and the best case scenario was I had to wait at least 25 business days to be shipped from UK to Mexican dealership-and hoping that once replaced there isn't any other problem they missed that would make a new LR stop dead on the highway....

Sorry to hear your problems.

I'm hoping that your engine isn't toast.

Dude, dudette...you had no profile picture until this morning, and I though 'old Clem is kinda girly looking'...apologies.

If you personally source the three items, and get Genuine LR parts, they come with a warranty. As long as the dealer will warranty whatever repairs they do with parts you provide, you should be ablr to get back on the road much faster. Call Land Rover Cerritos https://www.landrovercerritos.com/parts/index.htm or Land Rover Merriam referenced previously. If US dealers have logisitcs issues and time delays, use LRDirect, Rimmer Brothers, etc etc.

The bright side (?) is that if they are wrong, the truck will let then know pretty quickly. If they replace those parts and there are other issues, there will be solid indicators that there are 2nd and 3rd order effects. Yes, more time delays, but then you have a new engine.

If they are right, you are good to go.

Sorry to hear about this - weird, but I am sure it will get sorted. But with a profile pic like that, AND a Defender owner you will get a lot of help I am sure

As an aside, if you plan to import that to Austin, TX (where it says you are from) - then your nightmare of Defender ownership has just begun.

LR direct can have it all to you in a few days from the UK
if Rovers north doesn't have it in stock or the dealer

No way that was the plan. Right? Probably registered to your holiday house in Mexico for the occasional trip back to your real life ;-)

You probably won't get any sort of warranty through a dealer in the US or Canada. LRNA will only warranty parts and service on vehicles that are market specific. In other words, if they didn't sell that specific model into the North American market, they usually don't have parts, often can't get parts, not do they want to.

Remember, LRNA is a separate company from Land Rover, and they control the retail end of things North America wide.

However... being that the vehicle is registered in Mexico, and you are travelling, it then becomes an issue of LRNA playing nice with Land Rover MX, and a whole bunch of "higher-ups" just need to be human and make things happen.

Once you get under way, make sure to register with the Birmabright Brotherhood (Sisters are welcome too). I hope you plan to stop in Portland, Maine on your way to NS.
