Never introduced myself properly...

Thought I would take a moment (now that I actually own a LR) to introduce myself.

My first few postings on the forum ended up having to do with the amount of frauds I was running into in my search here in Europe - so I hadn't been on here long before I became the target of a sustained attack (on and off the forum) by a troll who I outed (unfortunately, he has registered my name "clivewatkins" as his on this forum, and it hasn't been deleted by the mods for some reason, but... whatever).

Anyway, my first driving experience was at the age of about 13, driving a friend's LR around their farm in the Cotswolds. About two years ago, I visited another friend on one of the small islands up in northern Maine, and he has a LR from about 1968, unregistered, that they use to wander around the island. It was at that point that I decided I'd like to take a look at the feasibility of getting one of these machines in Europe and bringing it to the US.

I spend most of my year here in Prague working for a state department school, and the rest of my time split between CT and NC. My initial plan was to try to buy one a year, ship it back, use it for the summer, sell it, and repeat each year. However, I'm not sure that that's going to work out... as I've mentioned elsewhere, and as people know, you can certainly find 87-93 90's (and less often 110's) around Europe, but unless you go look at each of them, the real condition is going to be a mystery. Now that I've finally found (and bought one), I'm not sure I'm going to let it go.

Here are a couple of photos... it's in Italy - hoping to ship in late April and register when I'm in NC in June. Will have more photos after my visit in mid-April.

Thanks - I certainly hope so; truth be told, I bought it sight unseen (by me)... I had lots of conversations, lots of photos, and bit the bullet. As I said, I’ll know more in mid-April.

Clive -

Any chance that "unregistered '68" was a very patina'd shade of Poppy Red?

Blue, actually; the owner (another American) lives over here most of the year teaching at the film school - he has been following my journey and has decided that he’s probably going to restore his. One of those situations where he bought it 30 years ago really just to have something on the island, and never looked after it. It runs well enough for the island, but I didn’t look at it long enough to see what it actually needs. I’ll ask if he has a photo I can share.
