Howdy from Boerne, TX

Hello All,
I am new to the board and ownership of a Defender. I have wanted one for years after falling in love with a 90 a friend bought after college. I have been telling my wife for years she has until my 40th birthday to buy me one...we are now a few months away.

Friends would consider me mechanically inclined, but I know I am novice compared to most of you on this board and I am sure I will have a ton of stupid questions. I have already learned a lot thanks to the years of experience from this forum, a great phone conversation with Derek (greenmountainrover) who you can just tell loves rovers and wants to help and Oliver (Forest) who is currently prepping my 86 110 for import to the states. I probably won't see her for a couple of months, but counting down the days.

Thanks John, we actually just moved to Boerne from Houston about a year ago. We loved spending time in Galveston.

There's no U in Boerne
There's a G in Refugio
There's just two S's in Lampasas
And none in Del Rio

Can't live without the forums... Such a great resource. the "71" in the handle is for 1971 Charger. I've restored 3, and couldn't have done it without the online community. Always been a rover guy, though, and ready to take on a bigger project in a 110 as soon as my helpers stir one up for me.

Mitch, just joined the forum as well and am literally down the road from you. In Fair Oaks Ranch and just bought an '88 110. British 4x4 Centre on San Pedro is pretty awesome. They've got my truck right now for a LHD conversion. Let me know if you want to grab coffee and discuss.

What's more odd, is my wife was going to buy me this for my 40th next month. She decided it was too personal and let me in on the decision.

Jim, what's even crazier is that I live in Raintree Woods in Fair Oaks. Also, I have had a couple of conversations with Brett at British 4x4 Centre and he is dropping in a 300tdi (and other mods) as soon as my 110 arrives.

We should definitely get together to discuss. I will shoot you a pm.

Joshua Creek Ranch in Boerne is one of my favorite places. Great sporting clays range and put birds hunting.

Well, I wrote this back in February and received word yesterday that it will arrive stateside on Monday. Hopefully the rest of the process will move a little faster...but I am learning to be patient.

No, Jacksonville. The original plan was Galveston, but I decided I was better off not trying to navigate the port myself and let a broker handle it. It was cheaper to go thru Jacksonville since it would be loaded on a truck either way. Here she is.

She arrived stateside last Monday and I heard last Wednesday that customs will be inspecting (which was expected). How long does that usually take? Week? Month? Bought this thing 4 months ago and I am ready to see it.

Does the broker have an opinion? I suspect it is tough to predict in this environment. Hopefully all you numbers are in the right spots and the engine meets their expectations.

My One Ten made it! Got the disco axles installed and took her on a short road trip over the weekend. Couldn't be happier.

Not sure she is worthy of build thread yet, but do want to start addressing a few small things - like being able to open the front doors from the inside.

She did come from the south of France and it looks like my driver door is from a Santana. At minimum the door card. The placard is in spanish calling out a 109 and the handle is a little lever you slide instead of pull.

Looks good Mitch, what engine is in it? Enjoy and learn about it before to many mods.
