Hello from SF Bay Area

Hi All!

I'm a new Defender owner -- just bought a '97 NAS D90 LE and I'm excited to be part of the Defender community.

I've wanted to buy a Defender as soon as they were to arrive on our shores back in 1994 but as I was just out of university and starting my career, the $35k+ price tag for a new one was way out of my reach.

So life happened . . . and 6 cars later, I finally fulfilled my goal of buying a Defender. I just brought it home so I'm hoping my wife will enjoy it as much as I do. I look forward to learning as much as I can from this community about this gem of a car.

Kelvin

Congrats!

My good buddy lives in Menlo Park. The first and most important thing to do is post pictures!

Cheers,

Jay

Congrats! Nice looking D90. I'm also in the bay area, and starting my search for same.
By any chance your WG is #1/300?

Beautiful truck and welcome to the community/disease. Change your oil cooler lines before you drive it anywhere unless you are 100% sure they are brand new.

Yeah. But good on you for snapping it up quickly! That's pretty awesome!
And my search continues... and I'll be sure to post here when I find one.

Enjoy in good health!

Welcome!! You should check out NCLR (Nor Cal Rover Club) for wheeling buddies and resources for maintenance and repair. I'm one of the Directors. Let me know if you have any questions!

I know there a couple good Land Rover shops up in San Francisco, but does anyone know if there are any good shops along the peninsula or in the South Bay?

Hey Kelvin, congrats on the truck! I'm in Santa Clara and take my D90 to Roverlans (Euroland 4x4) in south San Francisco. Top notch experience each time I go there. Definitely worth the drive.

Thanks for the tip. That's apparently where the previous owner got this truck serviced at. It's always good to have more than one option for servicing!

Nice truck man.

I spend about half my time in Atherton... would LOVE to see you driving around.

In the last 2 years I've only seen two other Defenders in that area.

A white 94 NAS st (with no top) getting absolutely dumped in, during one of these most recent storms.

A red 97 wagon headed towards Sand Hill.

There are a bunch of older Series/ ROW trucks in the Cupertino area.

Welcome to the family.

Thanks James. I used to see a white 94 NAS ST around the Palo Alto downtown area all the time but not lately. I wonder if it's the same one you saw.

If you ever want to hit up Hollister shoot me a PM.

There are plenty of scenic trails that won't destroy your truck.

In my experience, kids, dogs, and even the wives have a good time out there

If you guys ever want to do a SFBA meetup, I will try to make it. I am moving to Bumblefuck, Kansas next month but I work for a SF-based tech company remotely so I'm there at the office pretty frequently and don't have much going on after work.

Wow, Chris, you're getting an awesome deal by getting paid a Bay Area salary but living in a low-cost state. I can only wish that I'm able to do the same.
