1997 nas d90 le

Hi all,
Thank you for providing a great venue for Defender owners.

I purchased this defender 90 Oct of last year. The previous owner had done some modifications to it such as 1999 4.6L engine upgrade, ARB lockers front and back, stereo (he modified the center console and put a 10in sub woofer under the armrest, so if any of your have an original center console you want to part with please let me know), Corbeau from seats (also looking for original front seats), upgraded springs, and an ARB bumper with winch.

This car was featured in an inspirational Orvis Commercial right before I took ownership of it. I think it really does justice to the feeling of adventure that Defender's impart on ones sole

Thanks for sharing the video! It's great to see your car in its natural habitat.

Sure thing Kelvin. I see that you have a LE as well. Did you get yours from a Mill Valley owner?

As a matter of fact, yes. Do you know about this particular truck?

I know it by picture. I am from Larkspur, and soon after buying my D90 yours came onto the market and was from Mill Valley, which is just south of Larkspur. Being that you are from the bay area and being that your D90 was spot on from what I remember of the Mill Valley trunk, I thought I would ask. Also, like the fact that it is the #1 of the 300 built. Got to ask, what does the SW stand for?

So what do you think so far now that you own a LE? What are your plans to do with it?

It's basically a rolling restoration project for me. Although it runs well enough, it's also got a lot of deferred maintenance items that I'll be addressing slowly over time. It's too much of a financial hit to do it all at once.

I'm looking forward to taking it off-road once I get some of the worn drivetrain bits replaced. I couldn't even get my tire shop to balance the wheels since the BFG KO's on the truck are over 11 years old! BTW, I noticed you're running Duratracs on yours -- how do you like them? I'm thinking replacing my BFGs with Duratracs.

I am in the same boat. Have been slowly doing work to it to bring it back to like new state.

The Duratracs have been great. I have had several road trip with one from Salt Lake to Phoenix with several stops in between without any issue. The tires have worked well on the Highway, local roads and dirt. So far so good. But with that said, I don't know any different considering that I have never tried any other tire on the D90, but so far so good.

Here is a couple of pics while at Zion:

Congrats and the truck looks great.
Can you give some details on the winch setup, brand and model?
Im looking to put one on my truck with same ARB bumper.
Looks like the solenoid is remotely mounted on your truck?

Kelvin, on tires, you may want to look up Cooper Discover AT3. Solid reviews, including editors pick by expedition portal.
My Firestone tires are 6yo and showing some hairline cracks on sidewall. So, I need to plan for replacements... And bc they're Firestone tires, they've had some history on tread separation and rolling SUVs over. Ack!

Hi Chris,
The winch that is setup on my defender is a Baldwin. I don't know much about it and have not tried it out yet. Maybe someone on the forum can address how good it is compared to other winches on the market.

Funny! I live in Mill Valley and also saw that truck when it hit CL. Looked like a good one with a few small projects

I have read the reviews on the Harbor Freight Baldwin Winch, and as most everyone has suggested, it is not a very good winch. Anyone have any suggestions on a 9000lbs winch I should get for this D90?
Thank
-Mike

Kurt,
Do you roll your D110 in Marin? Do you know how many Defender owners are around in Marin?
Thanks
Mike

Superwinch TS9500 is one I'm thinking of getting.
Looks like it'll bolt up to the ARB bumper.
They have good reviews suggesting better than smittybilt.

Mike, sorry I asked and caused HF winch bashing.
