It came with a clapped out one in it so I transplanted a recon unit with all new ancillaries, turbo, injectors, fuel pump, tensioner, clutch and plate, etc.
Is that your motor on Utah 2013? lovely machine, the photo with my sons in the truck was taken in the La Salle mountains outside Moab.
Your shot from the La Sal road brings back lots of memories. They are one of my favorite ranges in Utah and have so many different personalities, depending on which direction you approach them from. There's nothing quite like high altitude meadow camping in Southern Utah. Have you posted your pics from this trip somewhere?
I did the Utah 2013 trip on an almost totally stock truck. The only things that I had done prior was the cargo flooring, the fridge mount, and the battery box redux with remote outlets. I'll post some pics of those in the Rocinante thread. I bought a three hundy before I bought the truck but it's still sitting in the crate. Will start installing early in the new year as parts arrive.
I really like the direction you've taken your truck so far. Hope you keep the sweet XZLs. Where did you find your PVC top and your Wolf sidesaddle spare mount? Also, are you planning on doing a drop tailgate?
Great looking truck! But what ever you do, do not modify, alter or otherwise molest that ultra rare, valuable and irreplaceable Tithonus hard top!
Now, I know what you are thinking, that top is hot as hades in the summer with virtually no ventilation, less visibility which make it useless in any type of warm climate and it is butt ugly to boot. But that is not the point, the point is that Chris Snell will not approve any modifications or alterations to that top and he will consequently make snide comments here about your modification and post pictures and bash you and your truck on other forums.
So do the right thing and get your modifications approved by Snell, and take my word - DO NOT CROSS ARBITER!
