yes he did unfortunatly, we will be getting some new ones in next week from a new supplier which are much better, they are actually from the genuine LR supplier,

Interesting. So by cable you mean something stiff that can provide both a push and pull action then? When I think cable, I think one-way only.

How cool would it be to make an auto conversion with a push button like the 50's car and place a gang of carling switches to do it?

if anyone does it I want ROYALTIES *LOL*

That's a shame (about your old supplier) but good to hear about the new prospect. I wonder if it'll be the same price.

That's too bad about the original supplier but great news about the new supplier being the original LR vendor. Does that mean they will be an exact match to the LR supplied version?

nope, a little different, old tooling was scrapped, new has cost me $ 8000 USD, hope they sell !! price has gone up 30,

dropped the useless 2 drinks holders and have a phone tray (iphone size) instead, old one was reaction injection moulded, new one is vacuum formed like the original in textured ABS plastic,

should be much better, first batch in next week,

Dave

Yes, auto trans shift cables are pretty stiff since they push and pull. You could, with some modification , go to an aftermarket shifter like B&M.

Can you post up some pics in here as well when that happens if it'll take some time to get them up on your site? The purists will likely be turned off by the no cup holders thing, but turning a '94 into an auto isn't very "pure" either, so as long as it looks good I don't really care.

Dang! I should have waited longer to get mine but oh well. Haven't put it in yet but cup holders look just right stubbies....waiting for the snow to start the interior mods, wiring, and lighting, turns out it's snowing today.

I will post before and after pics of mine. PO made a custom mount and boot for the shifter, has cable linkage is handy indeed.

Hi Josh, take a look at my 300tdi build thread.
I don't like the look of homemade shifter consoles, I see plenty of auto conversions for sale on Ebay but they rarely have a safe or cosmetically pleasing shifter housing.
worst one i've seen had the shifter gaffer taped to the trans tunnel.! my thinking is if they can't spend 500ish on something they will see every time they drive it what the hell else have they been cheap on.!

as for rugbeirs idea of having a push button gear selector .. thats easy.! a stepper motor & control module would do it.

I'm looking forward to seeing the new ashcoft console as i'm making custom cubby lid for my console and in the process of an auto conversion for a mate.

have fun..

Gren

I converted my '90 110 to auto and used an Art Carr shifter. The one made by Winters is identical. I made my own gate but later found out that one from a GM 4 speed auto will work.
I mounted the shifter in the panel between the seats.

I wish I could find the picture, there is a 110 ROW V8 with and Art Carr bolted to the tunnel in lieu of the Stick.

Nicely done

Great points indeed, especially when it was the previous owner who has done the auto conversion.

Yeah, that's a shame the design has changed. I'd say bring back the cup holders since you've already got the tray where the radio is supposed to go.
