Unhappy You have got to be kidding me....

Help...vinyl window just shattered!

I was knocking some snow off the rear window on my fastback top and the back window shattered from the cold. Does anyone know of a decent parts source or anyone that repairs these things? Can it be repaired by someone that fixes convertible tops?

Help....brrrr.....help

Brian

same thing happened to me on my bestop. I took the rear window to a canopy maker and they sewed in a new window. Try someone like that or a sail shop, or post a message in the wanted section. I did buy a set of windows only for another truck.

Jesse,

Thanks so much for your quick response. I was sitting there speechless in 7 degree weather just looking at the window shaking my head in disbelief. If you have a rear window for the fastback...that would be AWESOME. Do you have a pic that you could send me?

Thanks so much Jesse...you're a God-send!

Hey Brian,

Like Tyler said, any trim shop that works on vinyl tops/convertibles stocks the clear vinyl to make softop windows. I had it quoted to replace all of mine for about $90/window including labor. For $20 he re-sowed my rear vinyl window into it's frame on the spot.

Heh welcome to the weather I moved to LA to escape! Once you are frozen out of your car because the keyhole got warm enough to get wet you'll have truly had the midwest life experience.

Hey Jason,

I just moved to Denver from Los Angeles to take on a consulting project. Wow...to think that I use to complain after surfing in 55 degree water with a wetsuit on...ha! I am originally from Chicago and not a stranger to the cold weather that I moved to California to escape also.

Missing the Santa Anas,
Brian

Brian,

I am not using my fastback top at the moment. You are welcome to borrow my back window while you get yours fixed. Here's the sticking point though-- I'm headed out of town early tomorrow morning and won't be back til sunday. If you're desperate you are welcome to swing by the house and dig it out of the garage (seriously).

Hi Rod,

That's really nice of you...I can't thank you enough. Would it be possible to link up with you on Sunday...depending on your schedule and what time the Bears finish beating the Steelers...ha. Let me know what works for you. I am going to call a few upholstery repair shops tomorrow morning....

Thanks again,
Brian

Good luck with the cold Brian

I found a guy in Denver at Monaco Auto Trim...said he could replace the window for $75. I am going to wait for it to warm up a little before I drop it off...can live with the duct tape in the interim.

Thanks everyone,
Brian

Same thing happend to me last Christmas coming back from an ealy morning surf session, opened the window to slide in a long boardand it shattered across its width. I was somehwat numb from the 20F weather, but it still bummed me out. I went to a top shop and bought some thick "Isenglass" and hit wally-world on the way home for some singer extra heavy duty needles and sewed it in myself. Took it a few times through the thumb, but it came out great and only set me back 12.00 total! Let me know an I will make another feable attempt to post pictures...
