Question Yakima Xtowers/Xtera rack and 1A hi Rise bolt how to fit?

Hey everyone hopefully someone can offer a solution as I have seen some photos of this set from a couple of members up but lost their e-mail addresses, so I am hoping they see this thread. One nice guy in particular has a green D-90 SW with this exact set up...(I have his pictures he e-mailed)

here's the problem....

I have a set of Yakima Xtowers (Xtera)and Yakima 1A hi rise spacers and of course cross bars for my D-90 soft top. I have seen this set up on other D-90s and know it works...my problem is that the hi rise bolt is 3.5" long and I cannot get it to slide into the Xtera base because it is much longer than the original bolt and the angle will not allow it to fit..albeit just a tiny bit off.....(unless you have seen this or own this you probably haven't a clue of what I am asking) But I am hoping someone who has this setup knows what I am talkiing about and can tell me how they got the hi-rise bolt through the Xtera base and into the Hi rise sleeve. If I drill out the hole it will jeopardize the solid fit.

I could just use the Xtera and cross bars and be on my way, but they don't have much clearance so that is why I want to use the hi risers.

Appreciate any help.

I have the setup you are talking about and but I am not familiar with the Xtera mounts. Its been 3 years since I put it together but if I remember right I had to take the pin out that holds the metal plate that hooks under the rain gutter. Then I slide the bolt in and replaced the pin. I hope this helps.

Your set up is a little different because you have the rain gutters...so your mount would be different than the Xtowers. I have a soft top and my roof rack attaches directly to the roll cage...in my Hi Rise instructions, it references what you are talking about.

Thanks

If I remember, you simply do a bit of grinding to slide the bolt in there. I used a rasp file on the soft alum and it worked well. It's been years, but the yakima xtera mounts are awesome for lots of d90 related stuff including using it to mount your hilift, and i'm using one now as an antenna mount on my 110.

Thanks a lot Robert for your information...I had a feeling it wouldn't fit without some alteration, but before I did that I wanted to be sure there was no "trick" to getting it in there.

Did you file out the hole the bolt slides through, or the edge ot the lip of the Xtower mount?

Thanks again
