Worth The Clams? (Magnaflow)

Anyone running this pipe? Any improvement in performance?

Worth the money? Seems like a custom exhaust shop could do it cheaper.

I don't like mine and am swapping it out for a Borla. If you're going to the National in Co. in August I would be glad to tote it up for you and you can have it. I will be stopping off at RockWare for a couple of days and we could meet there.

No holes or anything...I just don't like the acoustics. I will be there August 8 and leaving the morning of the 10th.

Wow! Very kind of you. I humbly accept and will bring you a case of your favorite beer (or something you prefer).

I can meet you at Matt's place. I need to get some mods to my trailing arms anyway so I needed to go see him anyway.

I had the short magnaflow muffler installed on my Defender, mandrel bent tail pipe for around 200. It sounds really good. If you want your defender to sound like it has balls ditch the cats and run a 40 series flowmaster. Ive driven some trucks with the Borlas, I like the magnaflow better.

Agree with Phillip.

My 97 came with the Borla setup, and its annoying sound during extended highway driving resulted in a huge headache. I put the Magnaflow cat-backs and cat kits on both of my NAS trcks (one now gone as of this afternoon ) and they're great.

They can be found from a few sellers online at a significantly better price for those looking in then futurrph

I installed a Borla a few weeks ago.

I like the sound - except at around 2,800 - it does drone at that point - but once it shifts it sounds smooth. Feels like it has a bit more oomph as well (but that may be my head justifying the expense).

you can always pick up some headman headers from summit if you want to bump performance - but again this is a 3.9 were talking about. O....and if you just put on 33 mud terrains all bets are off because you can't hear yourself think much less hear the exhaust or the screaming 2 year old in the back. Boy those Cooper Discoverer STs were quiet.

Every setup, even stock, will drone in its own way. With an automatic you want it to "pipe out" aka "drone" at 1800-2000, where these motors are making peak torque. I like the magnaflow because they mellow out quite a bit at higher rpm but arent choking the motor. If the drone comes on later then it's just going to bother you while cruising. The flowmaster 40 that is so commonly used works ok on the 5 speed trucks because you spend more time at higher rpm/low speed in a 5 speed. If you could hear much of anything in a 90 at 75mph then everyone would probably run the NRP or a magnaflow... But you can't.

Also id say that factory cats are the most restrictive part of the exhaust, I might even be able to get a video of the d2 race car to illustrate.
