WONDERING IF I SHOULD PURCHASE A LOCAL D-90 please help

Greetings All!!!
im a relative newbie here, have been a toyota land cruiser enthuisiast for quite some time now and am now planning on moving towards the defender 90 route. I have the opportunity to purchase a vehicle and was wondering if you guys could help me on the whether i should purchase this 90 or not. the asking price is $20K
it has 148,000 miles on it, fiberglass top seems to be good shape no cracks whatsoever, tires are new 31', the hood of the vehicle has tremendous hail damage, door dings, the dash is cracked where the ashtray is, the front bezel of dash is cracked, steering wheel seems it was chewed buy a squirrel-so thats shot, display of the gauges, that lens plate is broken, dent on front right fender, drives straight, but seems like for a v8 it didnt have that power that i thought it should have....my 94 pathfinder seems to have more kick to it. Other than the high miles and the damaged items i mentioned it seems to be in okay shap....thanks in advance for your help and input.

Respectfully,

hopeful d90 owner.

You can find better deals in the classifieds here.

$20K for a D90 in that shape with those miles, even if it's a '97, is way too much. If you like to fix things yourself and you can get them down to $13K, then I'd say go for it.

The stock V8 only has 184 hp, so it probaly felt right. I know there are a lot of 90s in Coloraro, but someone on the forum may already know the 90 you are talking about. How does the frame look, any pics of the truck?

The truck was originally from CA. I talked to the onwner a while back. That truck has been USED. I dont think he did any maintenance to it,which is key to buying a used d90.
I wouldnt be afraid of the miles if the truck was maintained but would walk if he can't come up with the paper work. I agree with Dave you can find a better truck for the same money.

the frame is in decent shape. originally the car was from Cali, and just moved to colorado last few months. I kinda agree with dmarchand, the price is kinda steep with the current condition it is in....seems that when it lived in california, the car was parked outside 100% of the time, b/c the paint has faded, the dash has faded and again the steering wheel has broken down to like dust....

Face value of what you posted, I too would say you can do better, maybe not as local, but as someone said, there are much better truck currently for sale in this forums classified section.

Walk

That is a lot of money for the condition. Don't be afraid to travel. Hell I got mine in SC and I live in PA. I asked a local dealer to go over it ($150.00) and tell me everything about it, money well spent. Flew down and drove it back...Spent about 400.00 extra and two days to buy one out of state. As ANYONE on these boards can tell you $400.00 extra is nothing if you get the right d-90.

I second what Richard says. After looking at 3 locally, I drove 500 miles out of state for the right one. That's way too much money for those miles and that condition. My .02
