Question Wing top Air Intake or Scoop???

Hello,

I have been wondering about the Wing top air scoop and whether it is a good addition to my D90. All site that I have visited said that they are good for bringing in air for the heater. What I am wondering does it help the engine in really hot weather. Would it help the Air conditioning at all? Maybe my conception of this peice is completely wrong hoping to get some help from anyone.

Thanks

Save your money mate. They're crap. Cosmetic use only.

I have the wingtop scoop for the heater and it does help a bit with the heating - gets you more air. But seeing that you're in the middle east, I doubt you need it to help you with the heating at all

Other companies make them for the other side, which is suppose to help with the breathing but I personally have not seen any "realworld" facts or figures.

If nothing else it keeps water from collecting inside the fender when it rains.

The Rover's North unit I bought, seems to have solved the problem of snow accumulation causing my heater blower to blow its fuse. Might help with sand as well

I also modified it to house an external GPS antenna.

Hi, Tom

For your situation it would be a benefit as you said. Also the GPS antenna mount is a cool idea.

For improving the heat output, I haven't noticed any difference.

I had to remove the heater assembly to drain water from the blower motor causing a short. I drilled a few drain holes in the blower housing and removed the plastic squeeze doo-hicky so any water can drain more easily.

The best solution I intend to do is: remove the plastic scoop altogether and clamp some plastic tubing in its place and run it to the rear of the radiator. No more water or snow accumulation problems! You may also get a ram air effect while in motion but who cares.

Heck, if you don't care too much about engine smells you don't even need a tube. Just remove the scoop and cap off the plastic vent - or replace it with a non-vented one.
