windshield replacement

A semi kicked up a big rock and put a nice 2.5 inch round crack in my windshield.

Was talking to a co-worker who has a "friend" who has 2 rusted out 89 d-90's, both with good windshields.

Are they the same as my 94 ?

Also, this guy only wants 1,800 for both trucks and I'm thinking about picking them up just for parts. Problem is limited space to store them while I'm salvaging usable parts from them.

Anyone interested in getting parts off of either truck is welcome to them for minimal cost.

One truck does run, but has a ford 6 cyl engine. From what I'm told, both trucks are badly rusted from years of saltwater abuse in the backwaters of mississippi.

The windshield will be the same.

Regarding parting them out: soft top or hard top? Is the aluminum shot, too, or just the steel components? What's the engine in the non-running D90?

I am interested in an aluminum wagon/hard top if one is in decent/usable/fixable condition. I realize the doors are probably shot, but I could use doors as well...

If you get photos of these Ds, please email them to me/send me a link...

FWIW I've had two windshields replaced, both for under $150. It's just a flat piece of glass, so many glass shops can cut one out of 1/4" safety plate (laminated glass) by using your old one as a template.
Don't ever buy the factory part, unless you're upgrading to a heated screen.

Question Heated Pricing

Just wondering if anyone has bought a heater windshield lately and what they cost? Is it a dealer only item?
Regards, COSteve

That's an okay price I guess.

Or you can get an aftermarket one from the UK:

Several of us on this board ordered from these guys. I've had mine nearly two years and besides one pit from a rock, it been working awesome. Unless they changed the wiring harness they used to send with the screen, you'll want to source your own. But it's well worth it.

How did you incorporate the wiring harness/switch? Was it a bitch to wire?

No, just do a seperate harness (as though you were doing a new set of lights), and piggyback the 12v switch for that relay off the rear window switch. Clean and easy. Works perfectly.

That same company has them on ebay from time to time for 110 GBP, But it now 144 GBP shipped in the UK. Thought about ordering one from them, but never received a quote on shipping from them. My friend who owns a glass shop said they can cut and install a glass for around $120-$140, which will probably be the route I go.

1/4" safety plate (laminated flat glass) with a slight tint - it is the way to go, I've done it twice now.
I'd love to have a heated windscreen, but living in Colorado means replacing your windshield often, so there's no point paying for the nice one.
