Windscreen wipers

I am putting my truck back together and installing the wiper system.. The problem is, the wipers are running backwards and turning the wrong way. They actualy turn down when I pit them on.... That the Fu$%? Does anyone have pics of the inside of the dash to show how it goes together?

How do they run backwards, do you mean that they end in the up position instead of down?

What happens is that I put the wiper blades on and when I turn on the switch, they turn down into the bonnet instead of up to wipe the window... What the Fu$# is going on? Then they return to the park position .

Man, how the hell did you do that?! I have no idea, is the motor mounted upside down in some wierd fashion? I don't mean to laugh, but you build a bad-*ss custom truck and the only hangup is the windshield wipers!

Might be just the arm that connects to the wiper motor. Sometimes they can get bolted 180 degrees off, which would cause just that problem. Either that, or wiring.

Randy that is a clasic sign of bad Defender, you will never be able to fix it, ever! But I'll buy it from you for $20 and do what I can with it.

When you get it fixed, how about a pic of them installed incase this comes up again.

Did you replace it with a RHD set up?

I think the wiper boxes might be 180 backwards. should the actuator cable run abobe or below the boxes? I have them above right now and they are obviously wrong...

Randy, this is the best pic I can offer you. If this doesnt do it, let me know - my bulkhead is still naked so I can take more detailed pix if necessary.

No prob.. post the pics tomarrow.... And yes, Duct Tape is the key to life. I once duct taped my hand together after shooting a #16 nail through it. With some of the silver stuff, it was just fine so I can finish my work... Went to the doctor later.. lol...

from what I see on how mine went together, there is not "reversible" link. Did you get your motor or relay from a euro truck?

Chris, the wiper motors are not handed, they only make one.... I do think I know what the problem is though.... I might have to turn the big round gear in the mitor 180 deg. THis might work but can't play with it till after work today.

Ok, I got it sorted out with out any of your guys help... You all suck lol... I took the round gear out inside the wiper motor just behind the metal cover and it has a plastic piece that actuates the parking stop. There are 2 places you can clip the stop. One for RHD and one for LHD... It was quite easy. Now I am not wiping my bonnet every time I hit the switch..

Oh and Mike, I just fixed this while I was working.. You know what I mean !!

So you did have it set up for RHD. Sorry I couldn't help, I knew there was a difference but didn't know how to change it. Thanks for figuring it out and letting us know, I have a spare motor and assembly out of a RHD as a spare. I know I would have needed it at the worst moment and not known how to swap it to LHD.
