Windscreen- Original v. Aftermarket

Can anyone weigh-in on LR Original windscreen vs. Proline or AB's model? Mine was destroyed during the hardtop install last weekend.

I was the first to purchase one of AB's windsheilds years ago. Its not tinted but other than that Dot approved laminate winsheild glass is pretty much all the same since this is a flat not formed glass.
For the price Eric's deal is hard to beat.

Genuine is only like $150, I bought a couple of those from Mikey at LR West Chester. Glass guys have observed that Land Rover genuine glass is "harder" than after market, but I have not heard that specifically with respect to defender glass.

I had one made at Bright Glass, while I waited. I think the whole job cost me $225.

Same here. I went to the local place and they used my old one to cut a new one. $180 installed.

Just go to your local car glass place. If your seal is still good then use that, if not then just buy one from whom ever. The windshield is just flat glass which glass places love and they cut on the spot since there is no contours.

By the way I am on my 3rd or 4th shield. Each one is a funny story

I had mine replaced for $50 (covered under insurance plan) and they even came out to the house to do it. Whatever seal they used looks spot on.

I think the one Eric sent me was $100 and I put it in myself with a string.

I've just found out I have a crack in the screen ... why do things like that only happen when my sister uses the car??

I'm looking at the heated screen option ... another thing to connect up in the future ...

RN have a proline, clear non heated for $150 and appear to have a heated tinted version for about $320

I've asked for clarification and shipping costs.

I borrowed my sisters car once when she was in cali and blew her engine... turns out she never put oil in it.

$320 isnt bad wonder what else is needed to heat the glass

Relay, timer, wires, fuses and some electrical magic ... I also have to wire in my heated seats so I'm thinking I may have a weekend of tinkering coming up.

$320 is only for the screen ... going to need it to be shipped, fitted and an new surround.

could you elaborate on the procedure- seals and all? (a little remote where I live) a bullseye-courtesy of a gravel truck, now has expanded to a 6" crack.

Yeah, my insurance company just bought one of those OEM heated NAS 110 screens for me. I tried to get them to buy the newer model that, even when you include the new wires, is cheaper, but they cited a need to use the original part number. I can't say I didn't try to save them money.

Just to go back to the original point of the post ... I just ordered a Proline $155 clear screen as a temp measure until RN get the low cost military heated screens back in stock. I'll post comment next week ... but can't imagine it will be anything to get excited about.
