Wierd tranny question?

I just drained the tranny (R380), and as I feared there was a bunch af metal.
In a feble attempt to get more out, I stuck my finger in the drain hole. I feelt a loose peace of metal, big flat and long. I can move it with my finger but I cannot change the orientation at all. It is attached to something but it is definatly movable.

The tranny makes some funny noises and the syncros are wearing but nothing to suggest a rouge large piece of metal floating around.

I have never felt this before in another truck but I have also never stuck my finger in the drain hole. Any advise??

it could be the end of the oil pick up pipe, see attached schematic of gearbox housing. The item marked no 3 in the Picture

It may be the filter screen on the pickup in the R380.
