I've been searching the archives and several folks mention that either VW or Audi radio harness plugs will plug into the back of a stock D90 radio head unit...can someone be specific as to which VW or Audi these come from? There are two places on the back of the head unit where these plugs go and my Rover has just wires coming out of the cubby box (PO clipped the harness out to mount a crummy radio)...I'd like to wire a pair of "stock" plugs back into the truck...
thanks
George
I could have sworn when I got my for the 90 it said it was made for saabs. It plugged directly into the factory harness and with the reverse of two wires to keep power to the radio I incorporated it to a alpine harness so it was plug and play. I will look if I have the instructions still. This was for a 94 harness though and I know they changed from year to year. The harness in my 110 was insane with separate plugs to the amp and rear speakers
I second the recommendation to call Crutchfield--they are indeed quite helpful. However, as we all know, the inner workings of our Defenders are not always straightforward. I upgraded the radio in my '95 D90 to a JVC stereo from Crutchfield a few years ago, and the included wiring harness did not fit. Rather than dink around trying to get the correct harness, I wound up soldering each wire individually. (A great permanent fix, unless you ever need to replace the radio again.)
At any rate, I would call Crutchfield with your harness in hand, and they will be able to figure it out for you. As I recall, the setup in my car turned out to be identical to that for a '94 Disco, which I would pass on to the Crutchfield representative as a starting point.
Just to be clear, I'm looking for the original wiring harness for the '95 D90 Clarion 7788 radio. This is not something that Crutchfield has, so if anyone has a new harness or has cut theirs from their D90 and is willing to let it go, please let me know.
