Which battery?

Hi all.

Debating between these two batteries for my 2.5 NA Ex MoD 90.

I like that the Exide from Amazon has more cranking amps and a better warranty. However, the Energizer from Sam's Club is $50 cheaper and presumably much easier to deal with any warranty issues since they are local.

Exide from Amazon ($230 after $20 rebate):
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B003FFVI8A..._nQ.nxbEK27NZ0

Energizer from Sam's Club ($180):
Sam's Club

Which would you choose?

Thanks for the help!

Greg

Sears platinum always test best in comparison studies.
We have used Exide for several years with great results.

$180 for a deep cycle marine battery is a good price.

That said, are you running a winch? you are overkilling the battery decision Way overkill. I ran my 200tdi on the cheapest walmart 51R for a year. It worked great.

Not running a winch or any other high draw items. I guess I figure a little overkill on the battery doesn't have downside outside of the extra cost. Do I have this wrong? Was also thinking that these two AGMs are way less $s than something like an Odyssey (which I realize is a stronger battery all around).

Thanks again all for the feedback.

Nope, although I can think of other things to spend money on!

My opinion:

Try taking a different approach to this. Do you want an Odyssey but you can't afford one? Perhaps that's only because you think you need a battery designed to power an RV, just so you can run the headlights and starter on your 2.5NA, a 30 year old engine from the days before AGM deep cycles even existed. Let's say that you're a careful person, and you want to be respected for your decisions. However, you also want the lonely anti-social trolls on the internet to not insult you or scream that you from the safety of their keyboards because you bought a cheap battery from Autozone.

Fine. So let's revisit the Odyssey battery. So, you're thinking about buying a $180 AGM Deep Cycle bettery that weighs more than a 33 inch swamper on alloy wheels. Why? Because you really want an Odyssey but think it's too expensive. So why not look at the Odyssey PC680 "Extreme" for $115? Or if you think you need more juice, why not a PC925 AGM "Extreme" for $170, a battery which is common amongst the Ultra4 trucks, which are only slightly more demanding than your old Land Rover. But wait, maybe you don't need an AGM battery? If so, then the PC925 "Extreme" non-AGM version is $148?

With the money you save, you can buy yourself an actual trickle charging tender and then you'll take care of your battery instead of just letting it sit which will ruin a $300 battery the same as a $100 one.

Perhaps you don't need a Marine Deep Cycle AGM battery? Maybe you're not going on Safari in Africa. Maybe you're not driving from Alaska to Argentina. Maybe you just want the truck to start and you want to drive to work. Or to the mall. Or to the park with your kids. Maybe you don't have a boat?
