Anyone in Mass using this oil (synthetic)? Used to get it at WalMart but no longer - at least the ones I visit. Ran out of 5 gal jugs and need to restock soon.

Our Shell rep said it was out of stock and it may be discontinued. I haven't been able to get any for a month or so.

Paul,

Was that a blue bottle or white? Blue is Rotella-T (synthetic).

Matt,

Rotella-T in May 20008 introduced CJ-4 and now it's discontinued?! If you can keep me posted on your progress I wouldn't mind buying a supply off you - if that's agreeable.

In the meantime I'll start looking around.

Art, my bad....the wholesaler I deal with (marine) is not going to carry it as there is so little demand. The Shell rep at the marine shows doesn't even display it any more. However, Shell is not discontinuing it .

Is that a reformulation or something? I've been using their synthetic for several years.

CJ-4 is the newest spec, the main difference bewseen it and the older CI-4+ is TBN. A brief review in some VW TDi forums says the older formulation is better in this respect and many are stocking up on it, if they can find it.

TBN has to do with an additive in an oil that prevents or controls acid buildup over extended change intervals. Doesn't affect me as I change at normal intervals.

Here's a link to more info on that:

....not a big fan of the extended change intervals either. Not considering the relatively hard life my junk leads.
