Where is the best plast to drill holes for recovery points on a Defender front bumper

Just bought a pair of shackle mounting brackets for the front of my Defender. The bracket won't straddle the bumper/frame rail mounting so I'm thinking about moving them to just inside the the frame/bumper rail. Anyone have a problem mounting them this way?

Thanks!

If you want a shackle type recovery point, search for "JATE" rings.

Our o.e. winch tray bumper had ugly hooks mounted under it that were apparently original, but still scary looking.

The OE bumper is just a piece of tin. It will NOT hold up as a towpoint ancher. I would find something else. JATE rings would work.

I'm doing JATE's in the rear but not the front. I've seen recovery points on the inside of stock Defender bumpers. I think it's just a matter of careful placement with regard to backing and drilling.

Inline with the bumper mount points ONLY with a heavy backing plate. It is still pretty light though. I've done this, but also reinforced the bumper mounting points.

IMO, JATE rings are too weak as well, plus they are hard to access. As a minimum JATE rings must be bridled.
