where do i get the 4.2 chip?

Hey Everyone who has swapped to a 4.6- Where do you get the 4.2 chip? The stealership doesn't know anything about anything. I remember hearing that the 4.2 chip was inexpensive vs. the rpi chip- and that's what I'm looking for. Could you tell a difference running the 4.2 chip over the 3.9?
Thanks

Only thing I have been able to find is to take one out of a 93-95 RRC

This may be a longshot for most folks, but take one from a RRC and find a local college kid that knows about programming EPROMS. Or search online for someone offering the service. I don't know how much the RPI costs but I would bet you can get this service done for $100 or so.

I've done this back in my college days and it's a piece of cake, with the right equipment - and we're talking cheap equipment. You just place both chips in their slots and copy them.

Assuming no reprogramming is required for the security system you should be all set to go.

There is no need to change the chip. The performance difference that will result in minimal, not enough that I noticed on truck's we've done

I have done this for my 4.6 which was a 3.9. I can't swear by the results, but it did remove the 80MPH govenor.

You would get that same benefit with a Range Rover or Disco ECU, neither of which have that feature
