Wheel Spacers

Anyone have a pic of a D90 running 255/85's with wheel spacers? Can't decide if it's worth wasting a few hundo on.

I'm picking up mine today from MIT in Evergreen- I have spacers and that size tire. I think I'm a few blocks from you!

I'd love to see some pics. We should get together when I get back to town. In OKC working on the 90 then driving back next week. Still have your number from your email a while back in regards to helping me with a 2 inch lift.

check out the post entitled, "Before and After: Black Steelies vs. Boost w/ Tire upgrade" by Rijosho. I posted some pics of 255/85R16's with spacers from RN on page 2. Give me a call when you're back and you can see it in person.

I have 255/85/16 KM2s on D110 wheels and I don't think you need spacers with that combination.
My experience - bearing wear - with spacers wasn't great

I know I don't need them but thought a bit wider stance may make it look better. Bought 255s because of performance but liked the 285 stance better. I measured the distance of the tire from the edge of the fender flare and the front tires are tucked in over an inch further than the rear. Adding an inch will fill up a lot of empty space. Thanks for posting those pics Jay. Give you call when I get back. Resealing my transfer case turned into a much more fun weekend project......

I have a set spacers on with 285-75-16's If you are doing any kind of tight wheeling this is the only way to go. We had to identical Arels blue Defenders a MAR 2008. First we went out on the race track with the stock D-90 with no spacers drove a complete circle with it on the soft dirt. Next we took mine with the spacer over the same exact circle. My circle was around 6 foot smaller in diameter. thats a lot so I think they are well worth the money. You also have to adjust the turn stops in so your tire just touches your radius arms. This is only my 2 cents worth.

I need more pics of your truck. what tires are you running?

I never thought about this but spacers kind of make the hubs look weird when you run steel wheels. Wheel no longer sits flush.

Those are BFG KM1's- 255/85R16's. Yep- they look weird as the axle flanges are a bit recessed within the steel wheels. With Tornados, Boosts, etc they would look the same because they have center caps which cover that. I checked and I don't have any other photos at the moment- but I can take some when I get my Rover back later this week (it's in the shop at the moment). Search for either of Gustavo's for sale posts for his trucks- his D90 and his 110 both had spacers with steel wheels and that will give you a good idea of what they look like.

MIT is a Land Rover (and BMW) repair shop in Evergreen, CO- Rob (owner/mechanic) does most of the "major mechanical" work on my D90. As far as spacers go I added them mainly because I was hoping to improve handling and add some stability off road. Unfortunately I've changed so many other things with my suspension that I can't narrow down what improved what and by what amount- I just like my truck! If you do a search, any post you'll find will talk about improved turning and stability as a result of adding spacers- then there will be comments about premature bearing wear; it's one of those never-ending arguments it would seem.
