The Aussie Military also did this on their 110 4x4 and 6x6, they would run a seperated generator for Radio equip.

I'm resurrecting this thread since I'm looking to upgrade my 3.5 alternator similar to what Derek did. I don't necessarily need a 120A but prefer something better than the Lucas LRA00462 that is in it now. (plus my alternator is failing so I need something now). Not looking to do any modifications either, just want something better than I have that I can drop in.
Any recommendations with make and model numbers would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

I ended up getting a 90amp from Rovers North and having the casing re clocked to fit the right bolt pattern on the 3.5

Just called RN and they have a 45A and a 65A that they said should work. I'd prefer something a bit stronger without having to do what you did. Did you exhaust all options when you were looking into this and that's why you ended up having to modify the 90A that you got? Surely there's gotta be a 100A out there that would line up and work without mods.
