What's a Safari Edition?

Someone is selling a 1997 D90 "Safari Edition" on Autotrader.com. Anyone have anymore details on this limited edition D90?

If its willow green(?) wagon with checker plates, they may mean an LE (Limited Edition). Dont think I heard of an official released Safari Edition.

Ha, not at that price. I'd pay less than 20 for it. Would be fun to turn it into a halfcab.

The advertising copy is basically the same though. How could there possibly be 50 of these in the US? Its clearly a one off, and someone should convert it back to a SW and make it a zero-off.

Could that have been a conversion for a wheelchair? Definitely a Special Vehicle, not run of the mill.

The word for it is UGLY... But with a roll cage from George and some soft top doors, it would be pretty sweet.

So 1 of 50 is incorrect in the ad. Its a one off, I think not!

Think of this, an early model 88 and a 109 cartooned as husband and wife chatting with the Pope Mobile. In the back ground, the reactors at 3 mile island and all 49 other 'safari D-90s' frollicking off road. Conversation goes like this:

The Pope mobile "No, honestly, nothing wrong with the mud and dirt around here! Why do you ask?"

Will filled us in on part of the history of it back in Sept. My first thought was wheelchair transport as well but sight-seeing wagon was not far of a guess either LOL

It is interesting how just a few inches increase in roof height negatively affects the aesthetics of the classic lines...and most everyone agrees! I hate it!
