Follow-up:

After running the TruTracs for around 8,000 miles, they stopped making the noises. I am convinced that there is a significant break-in period with these 3rd members. If I had to do it all over again, I would go with ARB lockers.

Also, I replaced the natural gear oil (in the 3rd member) with Mobile 1 designed for Limited-Slip diffs. Now I don't get any grinding or popping from turning corners after things get warmed up. Whether that was related to a break-in period or the new oil (and resulting decrease in heat/friction) I don't know. Either way, it's gone.

Finally, I ended up getting DC drive shafts (front and rear) from GBR and custom-length trailing arms from Rock Ware to get the pinion angle just right. I had the rear shaft rebuilt, locally, without the adapter. Now the drive train is quiet and smooth.

Not sure I'd go through all of this BS again, but I am very happy with the current set-up. All is well that ends well.

I'm still running open. But I'm pretty sure TT are not suppose to make any noise including break in.

I will say the Mobil 1 for LSD is proprietary towards clutch type LSD, not gear type as the TT. For the TT it should not matter what type of diff fluid is run as long as it's the proper weight.

I've been focusing my attention on the Ashcroft ATB which are similar to TT as my possible install.

Unless you do a lot of hard off-roading, you're fine with the TT. But I'd be concerned about the noise.

I agree. I've never heard any noises from a TT.

That was the thrust of my update in post 41... there is no more noise.

2x. You would not know my TT is back there starting from day 1. Use RedLine that also has the LSD friction modifiers, although I don't think that is necessary for a TT as Red already mentioned. http://www.redlineoil.com/product.aspx?pid=40&pcid=4
I tried both Mobil 1 and Redline on two friction plate LDS diffs and the Redline was the better product. The diffs ran cooler and the lube sure looked better coming out after the weekend.

X3 never an issue or noise with my TT. I'm going on 110k miles of daily driving over 10 years but I also know a guy in Cali that has personally logged over 200k on his set up. I'm the opposite. I would never do anything other.
