What to look at when buying a defender?

I've always been interested in getting a defender and the time has finally come, i have found a few that seem to look good and sound good on paper. But when i go to check them out is there anything in particular that i should look for? and are there things that i should defiantly stay away from? I know some common things i should look at are the chassis, bulkhead, doors but is there anything else that anyone would recommend looking at that you have experienced problems with or are troubled areas? As this will be my first defender so anyone's input is greatly appreciated!

Corbin, using the search function will get you a ton of information. Searching "pre purchase inspection" and other terms will get you a very long way.

To get you started, here's one:

There are a couple videos on YouTube that will help. Personally, I would think about your budget- look at the "for sale section" here- and start narrowing down what you want to buy. Wether that is a project, a turn key, or in my case a REAL project. If your going to import a 110/90 I would research the cost of a "broker" and shipping. There are a few guys on this board who seem to know their stuff and appear trustworthy. Mindful, I am new to Land Rovers. Although, I am well versed in restorations.

Search function is also very helpful

P.s. I have never seen a "rust free" vehicle that is 25 yo.
