What the hell is this for?

So I had a small electrical fire, nothing too bad, gauge light circuit somehow connected to a ground wire. Lots of white smoke, no flames, nothing else affected. Anyways, took the dash apart to remove the affected circuit and found all kinds of fun stuff. Lots of wires not connected to stuff etc (200tdi transplant from 2.5td etc). Along the way I found this and not sure what it is for, i know it's a fuse. Click image for larger version

Looks like the fuse for a remote CB connector box.

sorry to hear...but very difficult to help you....of course as you know that is an in-line fuse and holder. If that can be diagnosed any further, without more pix/info I will be extremely impressed!!!

It's the ignition light resistor I believe if the wires to the holder are white & brown/yellow.

sorry, wire is brown/yellow from the main harness and white out to the steering column. I also haven't traced the wires completely which isn't helping. figured I'd post it up while i was inside and not working on the truck. I'll be using my Jedi powers tomorrow to sort stuff out.

Yup, ignition light resistor... Part of the alternator warning light circuit.

so what does that do? my only change recently was a new alternator (130 amp from 65amp). I have googled this thingy and it seems like it is important or not, some people seem not to have any issues. either way, where can I get one?
