What kind of mod is this?

A LR dealer in TN is selling a 97 NAS D90. Saw the online ad and wondered what accessory or mod is this on the truck (see pic of weird gear shifter near transfer case lever). Call the dealer you say, but it is a Sat night and also the ad doesn't even mention the F/R air lockers, so I doubt the average salesman there might know.

Thanks, haha it's all the way in TN and I'm in NJ! Just "window shopping" the online classified ads. BTW this rig has a ton of sweet mods and allegedly only 55k miles. Wonder if any forum member owned it.

That could be the seldom seen Ashcroft Underdrive!

Two things immediately noticeable about the photos.

1: High Water or mud mark. This thing has been sunk
2: Think the lever is wrongly positioned to be an Underdrive. The ones I saw came up alongside the drivers seat.

Ahh, the Rarely Seen "Tweed" Interior.

Well, hopefully I'm not offending anyone, but that seems awfully high for a Trail Rig like that. It's too bad they don't show any better pictures, or any of some of the other upgrades they mention like the S/C and Welder...

It seems to have a lot of mods, but I'm picky and from what I see, I'd want to redo everything anyway, I think it looks like shit with all those different switches laid out all over, gauges ill-fitting, half-assed mounting bezel around the gauge that is mounted in the dash...

The Ashcroft lever does fit there but you can also use a D2 hi/lo setup & fit it any where... looks like a D2 knob on top.

Is it customary for dealerships not to clean out used Defender's that they are charging a lot of money for? For $37k I would expect a completely detailed interior no matter what the intended use of the Defender was.

Truck has been passed around from dealer to dealer over the past two years, sometimes a dealer swings for the fences on the price. This is one of those times.

The interior of my truck looks similar to that after a long weekend at Uwharrie.
