What is this LR part??

So I just bought a D90 and I find 2 of these in the seat box. Anybody know what this is?? And yes, given the characters on this board, I know there will be some smart ass answers....

If you remove the rear section of the cage, you stick those into the slots that the horizontal bars go to give it a cleaner look.

They are somewhat prized. $75 a set seems to be the going rate, but why anyone would want them is beyond me as almost everyone has the full cage.

I actually enjoyed running it "fastback" style. Nice for a change every now and then anyway.
