What is this in my fuel tank?

I was cleaning up the garage and was getting ready to throw away my old fuel tank when I hear something rattling around inside. I shook it until this thing fell out. WTH is that? Do I need to put it in my new fuel tank? I have a 3.5 V8. Thanks in advance.

It looks like a pick up filter for your fuel pump.

Mine is carbed with an external fuel pump located on the chassis rail.

not sure what engine you have but if it is a NAS RRC I believe that the early 3.5 V8 uses unleaded

The number of things like that sold in the UK amazes me. Sure, they're sold here too, but I've seen the Tornado thing reviewed in an LR mag, and it didn't say "this is total BS."
