That's a big box - there must be more than an engine in there. Let us see!

First "warm" day here in NJ, so decided to do some work on the truck today...Replaced the old white grill and surround (PO had painted them white)...it would have been nice if the bullet connectors were a tad easier to get to...had to remove the headlights to get to the wires..what a PITA...

At the same time changed the indicators to clear with amber bulbs...also changed the hazard switch and interior light / gauge light switch...the lights in the dash suck, but they work...will change them to LED at some point...

I also pulled the original steel spare and mounted the matching alloy spare...the only thing I had to do was pull the 3 nuts behind the wheel and replace with two washers that would not go beyond the threads on the studs as backers and then could use the alloy nuts...

Let there be light...

And out in the desert, you have to have some light, right?...

So I put 2 of these Labcraft Scene Light S18's put on the back of the roof.

2240 lumens from the pair, at 1 amp draw each., Wired to an on/off Carling switch at the rear, as well as a 3 way Carling switch in the dash. They can be controlled from the rear, on the dash, and also triggered by engaging reverse. I'm amazed at the light coverage, (over 6 x 8 meters coverage from each). I'm not going to be setting up camp in the dark with these turned on.

What have you done to your Defender today.

Finally finished and tested my cubby/shelf rear cargo storage thing. Shelf is angled steel from Lowes and chicken coop flooring. I have added limit straps to the shelf doors and cleaned up the wiring etc.

Productive day...fitted the wheel spacers on....now I am comfortable with the alloys on! Those hub bolts were definitely hitting....

Also fitted the MUD seat rails....much more comfortable seating position, but now need to fit the side step...can't get my ass up into the seat...

Made some trick spare tire spacers out of 6-9 Nylon.

The studs on my spare tire carrier are way too long for alloys, so in the past I was using stacks of washers and an old wheel spacer, which was pretty hacky. The tricky bit is that the rear of the alloys have a pocket cast in, so you need some huge washers to keep the rear of the wheel supported.

I designed three conical washers of the correct length, with a pocket in the front of the correct diameter to be held in by three rover steel wheel lug nuts.

. Nice job. I did sort of the opposite. I went to a steel wheel and removed the spacer lug in order to place the wheel as far back as I could get it. I even removed the rear wiper arm so I could place the tire as close to the door as possible. I did this to decrease stress on my rear hinges and door frame.

Thanks clay!

Today, I bolted about 105 lbs of galvy...flair...plus the spare and the fake hi-lift. I think the total junk added to the truck is about 150lbs.

Still another 20+ lb ladder on the left yet to go on.

I really need to buy a new hi-lift jack...this thing is on its last legs!

I also need to trim the ladder base to the crossmember...maybe make it more curved or form fitting...

Also need a new tub eventually...

(Thanks again to cgalpin for the galvy run)

Looks good, wouldn't recognise it apart from the eye on the rear crossmember.

What have you done to your Defender today.

I think mine were originals so I replaced with these aftermarket from 1A Auto. $71.40 including shipping. OEM had 12.5K Ohm resistance. The new ones had 15K Ohm resistance. My gas milage was 1 mpg better with 3 out of 4 replaced (coincidence?). 1 of the new coils had a broken terminal and 1A Auto sent out a new one without questions immediately. Just replaced the 4th one morning.
