isolate the starter cable from solenoid housing...

My errand trip to the bike shop and dry cleaner turned into some fun today. Truck ran fine and I shut it down for a few minutes between stops. Went to the shop, came back and hit the ignition, starter keeps spinning after the truck is on. After some consultation and diagnosing in the parking lot, determined the ignition was not the issue (white wire with red line), so focused on the starter solenoid (which is new). Manifold was hot, which kind of sucked. After pulling the bat cable off the starter, noticed chafe marks. Appeared it chafed itself through the rubber housing and was connecting to the solenoid housing to short the solenoid (and run the starter after the engine was on/cable energized).

Changed wheel bearings/seal, new rotors and break pads. The bearings I took out were shot...

Paint

Finally nearing the end of some work on the 110. Picked up from paint today and putting it back together this week. It's come a long way in the last 6 months.

Went camping.... In Brooklyn. Floyd Bennet Field we took an RV slot instead of in the trees. Wiley spots are the way to go if anyone ends up doing this.

A Rover Montauk overnight camp would be awesome.

I know a spot that we could do it unofficially but requires either the Suffolk County or NYS 4x4 permit.

installed a pair of TerraFirma tree sliders on the D90. Got them with the discount @ Lucky8. Super fast shipping from NY to CA!

The box the TerraFirma sliders came in has AllMakes4x4 on it.. I can only assume TerraFirma OEM's them?
Anyways, took a good few hours to remove the original trims due to rusted retaining nuts and bolts. This is a CA truck.. I can't imagine what those would be like for trucks that see snow and lots of rain. I did get help from a small dewalt 18v impact gun (100 ftlb) for the smaller nuts and a big dewalt impact wrench (300 ftlb)to remove the bulkhead nut.
The job was made more difficult with my aux tank, not giving much room to remove bulkhead nut.... The aux tank is main reason for the sliders - help mitigate side impact, and now I also have a place to stand to access roof rack.

After removing the old stuff... the new sliders went on in about 10min each slide.

The nut needed a swivel 19mm... and the impact went at it for about a minute total before the nut got loose. Darn rust!

We had a good time. Did some biking, ate at Caracas Rockaway (we can eat our own body weight in Arepas).

I'm down for a Montauk trip. I'll look into permits... I mean it's NY how hard can it be :/

I go to Caracas enough that I had to learn how to make arepas because I was spending too much money there.

Made a start on refurbishing my 8274 front winch.... stripped, cleaned, media blasted and a fresh coat of paint. It'll be getting a GP heavy duty main shaft, friction discs and a 6.5hp Xp motor with Albright contactor. Rear will just get stripped, cleaned, painted and a good overhaul.

Yeah we used to go to the one in your hood pretty regularly. Now we are all about Vietnamese Sandwiches in Elmhurst (Joju).

Joined the 25% of Defenders who made it home...or at least to the dealership.

Dead battery in Paris, push started and drove for a few hours, then Three Amigos say hi, limp mode, then dead.

At least this occurred at the end of a two week Germany, Switzerland, Italy, France trip.
