I just got 23mpg in my 2.5 NAD. I feel I should be doing better.
200tdi, paperwork claims hybrid turbo, stage II injectors. 1.4Tcase, 8.5x16 xzls as you see in the pics.
I resealed the timing case, adjusted valves and set timing to 1.6 just before the trip. Boost was ~10-12 and EGT at 1200* on climbs. Down shifted into 2nd within sight of Eisenhower tunnel headed WB, took EB Vail pass in 2nd most of the way due to EGT... Should brought a canoe paddle.....

Not really. I returned from a decade plus overseas to Maryland. I went up there several times back in 2011-2012, but upstate doesn't have anything happening. It is on the list of places to retire. Good schools. But I can't get over the NYS gun laws. I'm no gun nut... just a bit libertarian I guess. That and I really enjoyed not having winter for a long long time. Turns out I don't miss it.
Suddenly started running rough. After hours of diag. ruling out potential causes, popped off the valve cover. Broke an injector pushrod, luckily both pieces were sitting there in the oil gallery. Went through it all with a magnet to make sure there weren't any more bits. Going to have to order in an injector, and change the oil just to be safe. (but I JUST changed the oil last week!)
Glad you found both pieces and the cause of the issue! After the magnet sweep, you are probably 99.9% sure that you have all the broken bits! And you could probably then filter your oil, but you'd still only be 99.99% sure that you got it all. You'd probably be fine as you know you must have gotten it all. But that dang .01% will drive you nuts! So another oil change may be worth the peace of mind and motor. Good luck.
I'm going to confirm with a fresh set of eyes that everything is accounted for. If not, off comes the pan. However there are 2 oil filters on a Td5, a centrifugal oil filter beside the normal filter. This cleans the oil by centrifugal force and accumulates dirt in an disposable metal pot that must be replaced every 36.000 miles
Yes, the Td5 injection system is both mechanical, and electronic. The cam dives a pump in each injector that pressurizes fuel to 2200 PSI. The ECU controls a spill valve inside the injector to control fuel delivery.
I broke the pushrod that's on top of the injector.
Another interesting thing on the Td5...no rubber timing belt.... it's actually a double roller chain
Cut down the galvanized roof rack from my series III 109 and fitted it to the 90. Some clamping, mig welding, and some cold galvanizing compound and now I have a perfect super ugly square branch snagger. Does match the galvanized trim though.
That's not rust, it's "frame patina".
Took mine to a 'Cars & Coffee' event in Portland. They put me up front as a 'feature car' with the Lamborghinis & Ferraris!
